Just returned from our 3 week journey across the country (from Jersey to Montana and back again), About 6500 miles total. What a great experience! In many of the campgrounds we stayed at, we were the only Popup. It usually took us only about 15 to 20 min. to set up and break down camp each day. Gas on average was about 3 dollars a gallon give or take and most of the places we stayed at were 25 to 30 dollars a night. Even with the high gas prices, it was still cheaper than flying ( 4 people going to Missoula MT is close to 3000 bucks!) and because we made our own food most of the time we saved a few hundred dollars there. Someone posted a thread a few months back asking if anyone would not take a long trip because of the fuel prices( or something like that). I'm glad I kept my plans as I feel my kids will remember this trip for the rest of their lives.
Don't let the high fuel prices stop you from enjoying this beautiful country of ours.
Now I just have to go through 3 weeks of Arvee club posts.
Did I miss anything good?! :D

Thanks for the trip report. Anyway to see some pictures?

PS: Last year we took a long trip with our PU [36 days]. It was a great time and we're thinking about doing it again.

As soon as I figure out how to download the pics from the new camera to the laptop I'll post a few. I've got some great shots of Devil's Tower and the Badlands and some of my fishin' holes in MT.
P.S. I did not see one single PUT bumper sticker on my trip

Apart from rallies, most of us never have.  Mine's been in place at least six years, and I've never seen another one (except at a rally).

We have a big coutry with a lot of people.

BTW, we took a cross-coutry trip (with a bit of meandering) in 2001.  It was 13,000+ miles (10,000 of it towing), and lasted 8 weeks.  Every member of the family came back changed.  I've heard each of my daughters (both in their teens at the time) refer to it as a "defining moment" in their lives.  It was the best thign we ever did, and I hope they make a similar trip some time with their own children.
