Ok here is a real sobb story. Can you hear the violins

I recently purchased a 1991 Coleman Roanoke Royale and I got to test it out in the rain this past weekend. It performed excellent and kept us dry in an all night rain. I thought things were really going my way until I set it up in my garage to let it dry our. When I closed the garage door it caught the canvas right in the middle of the bunk area. The tear is about the size of a nickle and the shape of an L. I have read all about patching canvas but have not seen anything about fixing sunbrella fabric. I am assuming it is sunbrella. Is there a patch kit that I can buy to fix it permanently.

Any help is appreciated
James

I have a 1997 Coleman Santa Fe. I am almost certain that the canvas is Sunbrella. I took a patch from the fabric store that is used to patch jeans and used an iron to patch the small hole I had. That's been about 7 years and I have not had a problem since. It prevented any further ripping and keeps the rain out. I was also able to find a color that was real close to the color of my canvas.

Good luck

Be very careful with iron-on patches on Sunbrella. Remember, Sunbrella is acrylic (plastic) and it will melt very quickly when it reaches a certain temperature. Just keep the iron moving and you should be OK.

Just found out it is not sunbrella fabric.  According to the owners manual (I found it) it is vinyl.  Any suggestions?

I've used one of these before (the "Hot" patch design). It works pretty good.

Oveton's and Cabellas both carry a repair tape, just for this kind of repair.  It's clear super sticky tape.  Looks kinda of like dermacile tape for skinn scrapes and cuts.  Cut a piece of tape a little bigger than the rip/tear, align the torn material and aplly the tape on one side with clean hands.  It's very sticky and you only get one shot to do it right before you have to cut another patch. Repeat the process on the other side.  Even works if canvas/cover is damp.  It's virtually invisible except to the person doing the repair.  It's about $18.00 for a 3"X15' roll. Works on any cover according to the package.  I've wad real good luck with it. It's a life saver.

I just ordered the tear-aid kit from cabella's.  It was only $4.99.  It looks like it may do the trick.  I will keep you posted.

Thanks for your help.

I used VLP (Vinyl Liquid Repair).  It wass really easy to use and remains pliable.  I am going to carry the Tear-Aid with me in the camper until I am sure that is fixed.

I think that you will be happy with it. I used that stuff on a vinyl folding chair cushion a long time ago and it is still holding.
