Squeaking leveler screws

I've a 2000 Coleman Cheyenne.  When screwing down the levelers, especially when they start to load, the screw squeeks loudly.  I find this kind of embarrassing.  My solution has been to spray them with silicone spray each time I set-up.  Grease will also work but is messy.

Does anyone have a solution to eliminate the need to lubricate the leveler threads each time I set up?  I know if traveling on rainy days the silicone or grease is washed off after a day of travel.

They really need to be lubed with grease. Silicone is not adequate for that purpose.

You don't need to put it on thick. Just put some grease on a rag and wipe on a thin coat. Usually, once a year will do. Make sure that the screws are clean before applying grease. You can even use white lithium grease. It's less messy and available in a spray can. It's more expensive though.

I have a case of squeaky leaf springs. Same thing. Spray them down on the way out, go through some rain and their squeakyness returns! I had new springs installed sometime back and at that time I was asked if I wanted to go with brass shackle bushings to keep them quiet ~ almost fainted when they told me the price (thought they might be gold!) and, of course, I said "put in the regular ones!" ... Oh, how I wish I could do that part over!

Anyway, I grease the crank down stabilizers, wipe off the excess and no problems there. Can't possibly handle TWO squeakies!

Wavery and flyfisherman you guys are slipping, I thought for sure that one of you would tell EdRay3 that they are stabilizers and not levelers and that they are only meant to stabilize the trailer and not lift it to level it LOL

Good point.

Ed, (May I call you Ed, Ed?) you level left and right with the axle(s), and then front and back with the tongue jack. You are talking about the stabilizers, which aren't to be used for leveling, but to make the floor/camper more stable.

Your squeaking might be tolerable (or absent) if you use them for their intended purpose.

Oh, and welcome to PUT!

My experience has been that you also need to pay attention to these stabilizers if you take a long trip. If they are easy to screw down they sometimes have a tendency to unscrew by themselves on the road. I make a point of checking them at each gas stop. My .02

Personally, I use dry lubricant on these.

Never ever had a problem with them unscrewing during travel. A squirt of WD-40 now and then works great for me. Not messy either..

Uncle Dale, My main concern is a squeaky lower back and joints. Do you have a remedy for these? If so, please let me know...
