We went for out first outing with the new (new to me) pop up and I found the sleeping on the 4" matress not that comfy. I am wondering what others might have done to improve the comfort? Specifically I found the matress on the plywood to be very hard. I have thought of perhaps an air matress or maby additional foam. The problem with the air matresses that  I have seen so far is that they are 8 to 9 inches thick. I would like to either slide something under the existing matress or on top of it but I dont want a lot of additional height. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some put on a layer of memory foam-type stuff, others remove their foam mattress all together and use an air mattress. My DW and I find our foam to be comfortable, but others don't. You just have to find what works for you.

We felt the same as you. We solved the problem with 4 inches of memory foam.

Now, in our opinion, it's very comfortable. In fact, we liked it so much that we bought some memory foam for our bed at home.

We have Memory foam on our bed at HOME, but I actually prefer the extra foam (bought at Walmart) in our camper. Makes it nice and comfy. I was afraid I'd find it to be very hot, but I don't.

We have a mattress factory close to our town so when the original 3" foam king mattress in our 01 Niagara got lumpy we had one custom made. It is 4"foam similar to memory foam and with the padding on top the mattress is about 5" thick. It is extremely comfy and we sleep better than ever. The extra 2" thickness makes no difference when popping down.

We used an air mattress a couple times and it worked okay. But when the wife or I would move, so did the other. Last week we bought a
1 1/2" memory foam pad at Target. It was much better. Plus you don't have to inflate it.

We were looking into memory foam top, but my wife asked the question: what do you do with it when you crank the camper down? Can you leave it on the bunk? Roll it up? Tell us your secrets. Please. We'll give you a choice of cats, as long at its our son's cat.

We brought in the house and put it on our bed.

We had the same issue. I had the foam replaced with high density foam. Works great, without incresing the thickness of the matress.

So we could plop two or three inches of memory foam on top of the mattresses in the Key West right now and not have any problems closing the trailer up?

I have had Wal-Mart foam on the beds for several years and have found it very comfortable.  A friend gave me memory foam for one of the beds, so I will try it at the Eastern PU Rally starting on Saturday.  I can close the replacement roof with the memory foam or the Wal-Mart foam on the bed.:)

Hi   We got a memory foam topper at Costco and aside from the price we love it.  This model hass two inches of foam as well as a some batting on top all incased in a fabric cover.  Very nice.  My Wife wasn't to happy when I came home with it but after our first night of camping she agreed that it was a welcome addition.  And no problem closing the camper.  Good Luck

Did you cut the memory foam from costco to fit on top of the existing mattress?  Our mattress in our Santa Fe Trailer measures in between a king and queen size standard mattress.  FYI - I weighed the memory foam topper from costco.  K = 46 lbs ($159.00)  & Q = 37lbs ($139.00).  I think they have a coupon for $25 off coming up soon.  I was thinking of buying a King and trimming off 4" on the side and 4" off the end.  Then just folding the extra cover section under the edge (tuck it under)?  What do you think of this plan?

I dont' find them the most comfortable mattresses either and my husband has arthritis and I have a chipped disc so was disappointed that the sleeping thing wasn't much better UNTIL we turned on the heater....wow what a nice feeling to get up in the am and not be stiff. I wish we had frames that size in the house to bring them in and use them when storing for the winter. I guess we would have to put the foam under the mattress.?
