Chain came off our lift system, pulled out everything inside (gutted) still cannot get to the chain .....anyone have any suggestions on how to get this chain back on the gears?

Local repair shop said about $1,000 IF he could get the parts; 4+ hrs labor to gut it.  And NO WARRENTY ON THE WORK.  Figured to save myself money and gut it for him, but now that I gutted and looked, wonder if I might be able to do it myself.

Anyone work on one of these before?  Have a manual or know where I can look?

I would contact Rockwood and see what kind of help they will give you.  Good luck on the job.:)

Thanks Tracey!
I had already tried finding a number on Forest River's website but hadn't had much luck.  (Which is why I posted.)
After your suggestion, I did a google search and found another message board where someone posted a phone number, address and email for Stephanie Little @ Forest River who had emailed them diagrams for a 1989 Rockwood lift system.  I emailed her and received over 14 attachments diagraming every part of the lift system (including chain and gear assembly)  So I think I have everything I need to try this on my own.
She also gave me a service department tech contact for any technical assistance I may need.  AND, replied to my email (with attachments) in less than 40 minutes.
It's wonderful to have such great service!
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I also have a broken chain (and maybe more) to repair on my 1980 Rockwood XL. I found some instructions for the lift system at website

I would be very interested in additional information that might help !
