Has anyone swaped out the futon type mattress that comes standard with most pups for something else? The wife and I just got back from our 2nd trip and even thought we have added memory foam the mattress it is still a little stiff for our liking. Is there an inner spring type mattress that can be used? If so, were can I get one?

Thank You,

Jason

We too felt that even with memory foam, our mattress was too hard.  We just started using an inflatible mattress.  We have a Coleman queen size that came with a battery operated pump.

So far, so good.  I was concerned that we would have to remove the old mattress, but we've just been putting the inflatible one on top of it.  It's a bit awkward getting down off it, but otherwise, seems fine.

Don't know where you live but you may try looking in your yellow pages for a local mattress maker. They will build to suit.

Our mattresses are about 3", and the only thing "hard" about them was feeling the hard wood underneath unless we laid flat on our backs, and we never do that. If we sleep in any other position (sides) we "bottom out" and feel the wood below.
So...we tried the egg-crate foam stuff which helped a little. This last camp-out, I put sleeping bag pads underneath it all, between the wood and the mattress. Now it seems tolerable, but it's sure not like our "Sleep Number" bed.

Our camping buddies use an air mattress, and love it.

I have added a layer of foam to the mattresses and like the bed much better.:)

We add an air mattress on the Queen side. On the smaller bed we added sleeping bag pads under the existing foam. Everybody seems happy now.
