Well, we arrived in Safford around 1100, fueling up the truck a valve stem blew out on the PU, weird, only 9months old.  We were lucky, it could have gone on our way up the mountain.  Had all of the valve stems fixed in town before heading up the hill.  It looked very cloudy, but we were commited to our journey.
The drive up is wonderful if you like steep grades and a bagillion switch backs! (I do!)  It takes about 2hrs from the bottom pulling a PU.  We didnt hurry, stopping a few times to let the dogs relieve themselves and taking in the sights.  When we arrived at the lake it was pouring rain.  You couldnt see 2 feet in front of you.  We managed to grab one of the last spots to park.  It says there is actual rv spots, but they are more like pull outs along the road.
We sat in the truck for about 20 min then the rain subsided and we were able to set up.  There is no, I repeat no water available so bring what you need.  The weather was cloudy and foggy on and off for 3 days.  If you bring your own wood it is a good idea because all the down wood available is soaked!  We usually go to construction sites and there is plenty of 2x4's by all the dumpsters that I cut up and put in milk crates.  It packs neatly, and is free!
The lake has alot of weeds, so fishing is tricky.  The trout are'nt
in too much of a hurry to bite because they are feasting on dragon flys, and water bugs and it is a challenge to try to catch them.
We had about 6 hours of rain on Monday so we just fired up the generator and watched DVD's.  I know, lame, but we were bored!  There was alot of deer with their little ones, and all water falls by the roads were flowing.  I recommend everyone try this camping spot at least once in their lifetime.  The last 12 miles to the lake is dirt and can be sorta rutty, but doesnt seem to washout because the mountain seems to be all rock!  $10.00 bucks a night, bathrooms and a 11 acre lake at 9,000ft.
The PU did great, no leaks.  Dogs had fun chasing little critters up trees.
Except for the soggy surroundings it was a nice trip.
