We are thinking about camping at Big Bend National Park during Spring Break which is in mid April. Does anyone have recommendations? The park web site accomodates reservations for the lodges but no mention is made of reservations for camp sites. I was last there in June of 1973 and I assume there have been some changes.

van castleI don t know that you need a reservation.  There are two main campgrounds, Rio Grand Village and Chisos Mountain.   They both usually have some spots open, as far as I ve read and seen.

For pitys sake though...PLEASE don t feed the @#$@ javelinas!  (wild pigs).  Our tent was ripped up due to pop-uppers and RV ers thinking it was harmless to feed the @#$@ pigs.   (This despite all the signs up telling you NOT to).

We were there two years ago in April, paddled through the Boquillas Canyon (3 day trip) and stayed at RGV campground for a day afterward...until the pigs shredded our tent.

van castle[&:] I want to go to Big Bend someday, but from what I ve heard the park gets pretty crowded all " winter"  holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and spring vacations...might want to make reservations just in case.  Anyone else out there know differently?

van castleThis link [link=http://www.nps.gov/bibe/camping.htm]http://www.nps.gov/bibe/camping.htm[/link]   has all the info I could find about the camping areas available, fees, etc.  As I understand they are on a first come, first served basis - no reservations.  Good luck (and please post a report of your trip if you make it).
