Found a really nice trick.. You can zoom and see a campground from Space! - Mapquests feature let s you check out a spot in quite good detail..

How far from the water, Vegetation, near by city etc...

Well worth the price - FREE ...:)

Only bummer is it doesn t cover all the US yet... For example Florida.. It covered mid west just fine but North West no luck...   Any way a great trip to keep under your rug!

Joe GleasonTry this site: http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/  A little slow and it doesn t cover everything. Still amazes the heck out of me!

Joe GleasonThat Rocks!... Thanks Good detail ...

Looking forward to seeing this upclose and in person... Neat way to check out a campground though! ...Thanks-

Joe GleasonYou need to take the Mapquest pictures with a grain of salt.  I pulled up the picture on my house and I can tell you it is several years old, could be as many as eight.  A lot can change in that period of time.

Joe GleasonTry this one - see what you think:

I ve used it quite often & it seems pretty good.

Joe GleasonThese last two, Terrasever, and maps are very nice... Both different levels of service... Maps.com seems a bit more updated in some areas... They have a nice quick find for things like epcot and such! ... You can see the parking lot and surprising lack of cars! ..

Anyway, I used this one to " entice"  some families to rent a rig and come camping!  - Thanks

Joe GleasonThese are great resources. This is an overhead shot of [link=http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=10&x=2290&y=19686&z=18&w=2]Camp Hatteras RV Resort[/link] Compare it to their current site plan [link=http://www.camphatteras.com/sitemap.html]HERE[/link].

And in this one both [link=http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=10&x=2290&y=19682&z=18&w=2]KOA and Ocean Waves Campground[/link] are shown (KOA is to the North, OWC is center)

 Pretty kewl...

BTW, these are older pictures (by several years). I noticed that Camp Hatteras was missing two entire loops, and had a service road that is no longer in use. Ocean Waves was missing a lot of concrete that I know has been there for at least the last 3 years. The Terraserver indicated the date these photo s were taken, back in 1993...

Joe GleasonI found that if I could " see the sites"  in the campground picture it was way to open for me. The places we normally camp you can t tell there s a campground, they look like just back roads. The photos/maps are nice to tell what s nearby and the general " tree cover"  of the campgrounds.

Well Mike, using your scale, Fort Wilderness is great.

The field on the left side is the Meadows area (pool & campfire area).  The canal along the right side is the pet walk area.  Just below the canal that goes side to side is the 1500 loop, and below that would be the 1600 - 1900 loops.
