I am looking to buy a cover for our pop-up.  Would a tarp be good enough to cover it or should we buy a cover made just for pop-ups?  Any recommendations on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any input!   :)

You might want to check your owners manual as some manufacturers recommend against covering a PUP.

We covered ours, even though manufacturer recommended not to.  We did use one of the ADCO breathable tarps made specifically for campers.  We never had any problems with that.  A tarp is not breathable, and would greatly increase the possibility of condensation/moisture problems inside the camper during long term storage.  If you're going to cover it, use something that will not seal moisture in.  You may be able to use a tarp if you rig it up to be suspended over the camper, allowing for airflow around the camper.

with a tarp.   What if your really just covering the top part?  just to shed off the leaves and crap from trees  ?      I got a 14X9 ft tarp.   air can still get in under the pop up roof.

The other issue is wind. As the wind blows through and/or around the tarp, it may tend to chafe the tarp and the paint on your PU.

The custom made "Breathable" covers are expensive but they fit better and are less prone to chafing.

The blue tarps only last about one year, then they fall apart from sun-rot. They leave little blue specks all over creation.

If I had to park mine outside, I think that I might look into something like one of these:

I use a breathable cover myself. It works well.

A portable or cheap carport would be really nice, but I don't want to have to move my pup if I want to open it up. The cover comes off in less than a minute, and I don't have to move the pup to pop it up.

I guess I will play it safe and get the 60$ breathable cover.   thanks guys and gals.

I think that you will be happier and save $ in the long run. Just throw it in the wash every couple months. The material's worst enemy is dirt. Dirt will degrade the material as most dirt is organic. As this organic material (dirt) decomposes, it turns to acid which will do more damage than the Sun's UV rays.

Some of the mfrs say you don't need to cover your camper. "It's made to be out side".  Coleman advised against it when they had ABS roofs but they told me that if you use a cover that only goes half way down on the sides you'd be alright.

I feel that until they invent a camper that resists birdie doo and tree sap I'm keeping my camper covered.  I keep my tirescover when ever it's in the driveway and my tires always look new.

A breathable cover is the way to go.:)

I figure $100 for a breathable cover is alot cheaper than replacing a top...
