A while back my R&R Band played at a festival and one of these was on display.

This is the International Harvester CXT and man did it get attention. Had an almost constant crowd around it, oogling it and taking pictures.

This thing has a tow rating of 5.5 tons!!! Should be able to tow anything we're likely to step up to. It's a 4 by 4 and has available 310HP with 950 ft.lb. of torque. Both DW and I decided we wanted one..........then we realized that at 9ft tall we'd have no place to park it and at over $120K it's "a bit" out of our price range....oh well, it's fun to think about anyway.  :eyecrazy:

Here's on that I saw at a campout a few weeks ago:

A ton is 2,000 lbs, so 5.5 tons is only 11,000 lbs.
Not much considering my 3/4 ton Chevy is rated for 10,100 lbs (12,000 with the diesel engine).

I looked it up and it has a payload rating of 5.5 tons.

The tow rating is 22 tons or 44,000 lbs, which is more like it!!

You of course are correct. I misstated the numbers...........BIG TIME!!! :banghead: 22 tons tow rating is still even more than I'll ever need!!! 5.5 ton payload means a lot of gear!! And this thing is still just a fantasy; fun to think about but not very practicable for everyday use........for me at least.

International has several medium duty vehicles like this.  Take a look at their site.  While this big pickup is pretty cool, it isn't all that practical, some of their other models are.

Recently in the news was the agreement for Navistar (International) to purchase the GM Medium truck division and sell through Chevrolet and GMC dealers.

http://ir.navistar.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=282796

I bought one of the last IHC pickups new for $5,633 in October 1975 (a "200" 3/4 ton 4x4). It was used it to haul livestock, general farm work, carry a slide-in truck camper, and to pull a gooseneck dump grain trailer.  It was a tough truck!

I was told that the reason for the discontinuation of the IHC pickup and Travelall line in in 1975 was the cost of meeting the 1970's emissions requirements while powered with engines designed for medium-duty trucks.  The Scouts were discontinued a few years later.

I'll put my Chevy Duramax up against it...365 hp, and an adequate 660 lbft of torque.  My tow rating is higher too.  And I can park it in the garage...

When IH came out with that CXT, they promoted it as a vehicle for nurseries and landscapers, which I thought was a very strange choice of target market.

Wynot are you  sure your Duramax will tow more than 44,000 pounds? And will it carry more than 5.5 tons?

Well, I post the wrong numbers originally. I said it would tow 5.5 tons (11,000lbs) when actually that is what it will haul. But the darn thing still won't fit in my garage......or my budget.

If I want, I can use this monster to tow my PUP. ;) It's was customized to tow a race car or horse trailer. We use it to tow the horse trailer.
