I have read that to quiet a generator...build an enclosure to "muffle" the noise. How big should the air intake hole be on the box...are there any plans around  to build the enclosure?

You need to let heat and the exhaust out and fresh air in.  If I were going to build a box, I think I would leave one end open.  Face the open end away from other campers.:)

A couple of weeks ago, someone posted the plans for a generator box. It was basically 2 boxes, one bigger than the other (about 5" higher and 10" wider, equal in legth). The boxes were open on the bottum and one end. You put the smaller box over the generator with the the exhuast pointing towards the open end (at least 3" open space all around the generator). Then you put the bigger box over the smaller box with the open end on the other side. Install 2" soundproofing material on the inside of both boxes.

The box has plenty of air circulation and soundproofing. Sound doesn't turn corners very well.

For my Honda EU2000i Generator, the smaller box would need to be 25" long x 22" wide x 22" tall. The bigger box would have to be 25" long x 32" wide x 27" tall. Those would be 2 pretty big boxes and the Honda 2000 is a pretty small generator.
