DW has decided that she wants to camp the weekend of 9/16. We'd like to see Baltimore's inner harbor so we're looking for something close to the inner city or close to a metro station. Most SP don't open until March 1 (at least in Va.). I have hotel reservations as back up, but she'd really like to camp.

Any Marylanders out there with some advice?

Your first thought, while a good one won't work.  The Metro does not run into Baltimore.  New Carrollton on the Orange line is as close to Baltimore that Metro runs.  Maryland does have MARC trains that you could pick up and ride into Baltimore, but these are designed as commuter trains, not really suited to being a tourist.  Unless you take a bus or drive, there is no easy way to get to the inner harbor.

I think the closest camping is
Capitol KOA Campground which is about 8 miles outside the Baltimore beltway, but it does not open until March 1.

Patapsco Valley State Park is the closest State Park with camping, but the campgrounds dont open until late March and April.

Not sure, but check out Morris Meadows in Freeland, MD. Just a short hop down 83 or Susquehanna State Park close to Havre de Grace. Know some people camped New Year's Eve.

Baltimore does have the light rail.  You can make reservations all through the winter at any of the state parks.  We like Susquehanna SP and Elk Neck SP.  Both are a trip down I-95.  Keep in mind that the tunnels through Baltimore don't allow propane.  You will need to take 695 either direction around the city.

I've never stayed in Patapsco SP, so can't really say about that one.

There is a pretty active group of campers in the Baltiomre area, post where and when you will be camping and you may have some locals camping with you.

Not familiar with campgrounds near Baltimore.  There are none within the city limits.  I have included a couple of items that may give you some help.
