How much is it "normal" to offer below the asking price? Has anyone ever offered $1K below and had it accepted by the seller? (Talking of Colemans and Starcrafts in particular)

It's worth a try. We offered $500 less for the trailer we just bought and got it. Try the $1,000 and if he isn't taking then negotiate. That is my favorite part, haggling. I think that is why I love visiting Mexico.

Is this PUP being sold by a dealer or privately?  If it's a dealer, show no fear.  We got our barely used '06 Viking in '07 for $3000 less than the asking price.

I got a used pup from a dealer last year. They were asking $1800 and I offered $1000. I held my ground and after a while they took it.

I just bought a used 08 Starcraft Centenial from a dealer for $2800 below asking price, and about $3500 less than the selling price for a new 08.  Had put a deposit on a new Palomino, and they had come down about $1200 from asking price.  But, then we saw the highwall models, and that looked better for us.  Probably more haggle room with the highwalls, because of the higher original price.

If you're buying it from a private party, see if you can gauge the market in your area.  The used market here in MO, at least in the $2k-$4k range, is good enough that they are selling for asking price, unless it's junk.  I missed out on some good campers in the past because of haggling too much.
