Hey all! I recently purchased a Jayco Baja 10y (2005 model). Well I need a weight distribution hitch and the dealer I got it from told me I did not. I broke a lift cable over the weekend and had to take it to a Jayco dealer, not the one I got it from(as is no warranty), and they have the cable fixed already! I inquired about a WDH andthey said they didnt have one that would work and did not know what would? This thing hauls a 4 wheeler ,there must be someone else with one that has a setup! please help! Thanks Joe

Someone with a similar set-up should come along soon.

I don't use a WDH but several on here do and the swear by them. In fact, you may just want to put "WDH" in the "Simple Search" window above.

Hi Joe,
I have a 2007 Tacoma quad cab 4x4 and haul a Fleetwood E3. This also has room for a quad. I use a weight distribution hitch and it works great. I had my dealer set up the WDH at purchase but I researched quite a bit prior and you can definitely purchase and install one yourself. If it helps, I can send you some photos of my setup for you to compare to your trailer.

I have the '07 model.  I tow it with a Chevy S10 4X4.  I also carry my 4 wheeler up front.  You definitely need a WD hitch.  I have a 1000# Reese.  "didn't have one that would work and did not know what would?"  Are they kidding?  Go someplace else.

My dealer set up my 10Y, filled the propane tanks, gave me the hitch for free (used), installed and adjusted the hitch for free, installed the electric brake controller, and did a top to bottom walk through with me.  My truck already had a Class III receiver on it.  When I do the off-road thing, I disconnect the weight distribution bars.  The 10Y deck is just wide enough to hold my Raptor 700 with stock wheels.

You also need the electric brake controller if you haven't got one already.

My Colorado is similar in size, weight, wheelbase and towing capacity as your truck, Joe. It came with a Class III receiver rated at 500 lbs weight carrying, no weight distribution rating. Without my quad, no problem, but with it I was well over the max rating.

I spent several weeks searching the web to find a Class IV that would work. Wound up with a Valley Industries receiver and Robin Industry WD setup. The big guys were no help - Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, etc. Without the quad, I don't need the bars, when I add the quad the bars levels everything out nicely. I should mention that there is a significant difference in the way the receivers bolt to the frame. I highly recommend a Class IV receiver if you can find, it spreads the load better.

A good place to start your search is Etrailer

The 10Y is a great trailer. The tongue weight is about 300 with the tank full and trailer loaded with normal stuff. Adding my 600+ lb Grizzly 700 brings the tw up to 620, so the trailer is pretty well balanced.

I have the 07 model as well and tow with a 1/2 ton GMC.  I put my Rhino on the front of it and it squats pretty bad.  What WDH are you running on yours waygard33?  I have not towed it at high speeds yet.  I did put 2500 lbs. overload springs on the rear of my truck when I purchased it.

Joe, for some reason your not supposed to use a WDH with Jayco PU's. You can use an Anti-Sway bar though..........Ed C.

I don't know where you got this info, Ed, but it's not true for the Baja 10Y. The owners manual specifies the use of a WD hitch. The propane tank mount has cutouts specifically for mounting the chain hooks.

Overall shot...

Ed probably got the information from his owner's manual.  Mine says the same thing.  Most Jaycos aren't set up for a WDH ... the toy/cargo haulers are a whole 'nother setup.  I'm sure you'll get more good info from others who do use a WDH.

Point taken, Kelly.

As Joe was asking about a specific trailer, I feel we should do what we can to avoid confusing him.

I've got an EAZ-Lift WDH.

I'm not sure of the model number as it's not stamped on the hitch (that I can find). The label has the tow rating numbers and it's over 1000# at the tongue.

Works great.

Thanks to Homeless Guy I found a Robin Hitch that works great! I havent towed with it yet but it reduces the squat tremendously! I got it on sale for $199 too! I finally talked to Jayco and the deck weight limit for my year is 650lbs. I am about 50 below that so I think I am good! I am towing tomorrow from SC to VA so I hope it works right! Thanks for everyones replies! Happy Camping! Joe
