where to foam for matterss and cushions

Lowes here in Denver used to carry large sheets in varying thicknesses, but I haven't seen them in a while at those stores.  I know that I have seen sheets of the foam at sewing/fabric stores as well.  You can get it in large sheets big enough to do all of your cushions at once- that is what I will do when the time comes.

You want to get high density foam or you will feel the wood through the foam.:)

Automotive upholstery supply shops carry all sorts of densities, thicknesses and sizes.  If there's not one in your area, pay a visit to an automotive upholstery shop and see if they can source it for you.  A furniture upholstery shop should be able to get it as well.

However, consider the memory foam mattress toppers and just go right on top of your existing beds with 2" toppers.  It'll transform your beds!  They go on sale frequently at Target, Walmart, etc.  Costco carries them as well.

I bought my Serta 2" memory foam mattress topper at Overstock.com.  I placed on top of exisiting mattress and under my heated mattress pad.

It does require more effort to close it.

We've gone thru just about every configuration to make our camper mattress more comfortable. My "beef" was that the stock mattress just did not provide enough support. My hip and shoulder felt bruised every morning. We tried the air mattress - no good for me. We tried memory foam and then an additional mattress topper - not enough support for me - too soft. Then we tried to find an upgraded stock mattress, unable to find, and a replacement stock mattress was VERY pricey. I then started research online for high density upholstery foam. It comes in a lot of different "weights" (densities). I finely settled on a 60 lb. density foam that I'm getting from a local auto re-upholstery store for about half the price that I could find it on line. 40 lb. density foam is what is commonly recommended for chair/dinette upholstery. This will be a VERY firm mattress that we can soften slightly with the mattress topper we already own. I'm hoping this will be the "perfect" camping mattress for us (or I'll never hear the end of it from my DH!!!!!!!!!!)

Sounds like a nice combo Cheryl.  I'll bet it winds up being perfect.

There are also different densities of memory foam.  You probably got good memory foam from overstock.com, but some of the stuff can be pretty cheap.

The 1" one we bought for our daughter's bunk, was only $20 onsale at Target, but it's actually good quality. We've got the Costco ones on our bunk, and on our bed at home, and they are very good quality.
