Battery won't stay charged

WE have a marine battery that is only 2 years old.  It will not keep its charge.  Water is full.............  During the winter we keep the battery in the basement on a carpeted floor ( concrete underneath)  Any suggestions

How are you charging the battery?

Get yourself a hydrometer from an auto parts  store and check each cell. However, if it's full of water and won't hold a charge, there isn't much you can do except take it back under warranty and get a replacement.

Don't forget that even if the battery is charged, and you reconnect it to the camper, there is a 24/7 draw on it (the propane leak detector) and it will run the battery back down within a few days.  Frustrating!

You can also take the battery to a local parts house that can load test it, preferably the dealer of that battery. Take it in fully charged or plan to leave it with the store long enough that they can charge it.

Then they can perform a load test. If it fails then most likely the electrolyting on the interior plates are bad and the thing needs replacing.

They should do it for free in hopes that you buy your next one from them. If it IS bad and still you still have months left on the battery then the dealer who sells that battery has to pro-rate out the unused months you didn
