OK....really hate to sound stupid here, but I must know what I am doing wrong. We have 2 coleman propane lanterns (2 mantle style) and had to recently replace all of the mantles. So, I go out and buy 3 packs (2 in each pack), thinking that I would probably ruin at least one during the burning process, and that would give us one extra. So, I get them burned down and get ready to put the globe on the lantern, and lo and behold the globe would not go on because the metal clips stuck out too much. Well, I thought that I could bend them upwards and all would be OK. NOT!!! While trying to bend the clip part upward, I managed to snap the mantle all the way off, resulting in it falling apart.

I have to be doing something wrong with these things. Why don't they make the ones with the strings anymore? Should I be trying to attach the mantle, then bend the clip before I do the burning process?

Any and all help is appreciated....camping again in less than two weeks and need to get this figured out.

That's what we do, get the excess clip out of the way before you burn down the mantle...and I agree the strings were easier.
