Can anyone give us detail info on Cedar Point Campground?  Have reservation for next month and trying to plan out our packing.
1.  How big are the spaces in the back-in E/W/S area? (Approx.)
2.  How much shading is there?
3.  They state "no tents" but does that include screenhouse over picnic table?
4.  They state "no campfires" but last campground I was at that stated that, there were campers building campfires in their grills.  Is that a loop hole?
5.  Am I correct in assuming the closest food shopping would be in Sandusky?
6.  How stocked is the campground store? (Just basics?)
7.  How difficult is it to get on and off the penninsula during our stay?
8.  Any hints or tips on the campground and/or park?

Everyone excited and can't wait!!  Last amusement park campground started testing the coaster at 6am and had our blood pumping until the gates open!!! (Only a coaster enthusiast could fully enjoy that at 6am.)
Thanks for any help!

We camped at Cedar Point last August in the older circular camping area closest to the back gate.  My opinions come with the caviat that it rained constantly during our two night stay.  It rained so much there were huge puddles of standing water throughout the campground.  There was no way to walk around without getting your feet wet.  HOWEVER, that meant virtually NO LINES in the park.  It worked out well.  We didn't melt!

The area has very mature trees, and is mostly shady.  Camps sites are small, and there's not alot between you and your nieghbors.  We were in a site on the outer ring, backing up the the park fence.  Our camper and truck consumed most of the length of the site.  There wasn't really room for a tent, even if they were allowed.  We did see people with various types of awnings and shelters over picnic tables.  There is a charcol grill.  I didn't see anyone building a wood fire in them, but we didn't spend too much time lingering outside due to the rain.    The site was mostly dirt, with some grass next to the road.  The bathroom/shower building was older.  It was not the cleanest, but it was fine.  We were there at the end of the season, so I think they may have been short-staffed in the cleaning dept, and the constant rain had things a little muddy.  We found walking to the bathroom from the outer loop to be a challange because the the circular design of the camp ground.  We ended up cutting through a lot, even though we really don't like doing it.

On the UP side, it was awesome to be so close to the back gate of the park.  It made it VERY easy to get in and out of the park with minimal, or no waiting.  We could also easily walk back to the camper mid-day for a break, or some food.  We were able to get into the park an hour before it was open to the general public, and ride several of the major coasters before lines got too bad.  (You MUST ride the Top Fuel Dragster!) :D  It was fun to wake up in the morning to the sound of roller coasters doing test runs.  :)

There is a newer camp ground area with concrete pads and full hookups.  It's a little farther away from the gate, and very open and sunny.  The sites seemed to be a little bigger too.

We didn't go into the camp store.  All our food came from home.  You could also easily stock up in Sandusky on your way in.  I'd be wary of leaving the property on a busy day, though.  It might be tough to get back in.  The causway can get pretty jammed with traffic.

We will go back, and camp there again.   :D  The campground is fine, the location is awesome, and the park is of course, AWESOME!  We went there for the coasters, the camping was just a bonus.

Thank you A2
"We went there for the coasters, the camping was just a bonus."
EXACTLY!!!
It sounds like the older "circle" in the gampground will be better for us.  I was surprised CP couldn't send me a campground map.
Will probably get our food on the way in since coming such a long way with a stop-over at Grannie's house.  Thanks for the advice about not leaving the property on a busy day as I hadn't thought of that.
Oh, and definately have plans for Top Thrill as the rest of the family rode "Kingdaka" at Six Flags G.A. in NJ last year and they've never let me forget the fun I missed, lol.
Thanks again.

I'm glad the information is helpful. :)  I'll look through my truck.  The campground map may still be stashed somewhere.  If I can find it, I'll scan it in for posting.

Cedar Point is a great park.  The fiftysomthing dollars for the camp site is a deal compared to the two hundred to stay in the Breakers hotel out there.  AND we get to bring our own beds and stuff.  BYOB!  Bring your own bedroom!  :D

There's a FRIDAY's resturant in the hotel too if you decide to eat out.  (There will be a line there around dinner time.)  It's a short walk away, as is the beach on Lake Erie.

Even in all that rain, we had a blast.  :-()

I would recomend staying at Cedarlane Resort in Port Clinton, Ohio.
It is about a half hour from Cedar-Point and it is a very good campground. We travel 4 hours every weekend to camp there.  //www.cedarlanervpark.com

I know Cedar Point will be  a great choice.  I would avoid Cedar Lane in Port Clinton.  We stayed over the Labor day weekend last year after hearing how great it was.  It's not great.  They advertise "modern bathrooms/showerhouse" but those must be for seaonal residents only because their was nothing great about the bathrooms.  They are ten times cleaner and nicer at the state park (East Harbor).

The Causeway into CP can be busy at times.  Stock up on your way in.  There is a Walmart, Meijer and Target on the main road (US 250) so plenty of choices.

Must eat at Famous Dave's.  It is located in the marina of CP.  Great food and service (Much better than Fridays)

Enjoy your trip!

Well here's an update.  We returned to Cedar Point last week, staying one night in the campground.  Once again we were in "Loop B" which is the older loop for "only" $65 per night.  YIKES!

The park was awesome as usual.  The campground was not as crowded as I remember last time.  At least it didn't rain!  :D

The bathrooms were still dirty.  They really need to work on this.  It's fine to have an old bath house facility as long as it is clean.  This place actually stinks!  YUCK!

The other thing that happend again was the birds.  The campground becomes overrun with flocks of those little black junk birds throughout the day.  I have never cleaned so much bird poop off my camper and truck!  It's terrible!

So I'm wondering.......  Has anyone stayed in the newer Cedar Point campground?  Are the bathrooms cleaner?  Did your rig get covered in poop?  It may be worth spending the extra $20 to stay in that area.  I'm just not sure I'm ready to be surrounded by all those Class A rigs! :)

Happy Trails! :D

We just got back from a trip that included Cedar Point.  We stayed at the Huron River Camping Resort, which is a Passport America property.  We paid about $40 for 3 nights of camping.  The "Resort" in their title is to be used loosely.  Scenery was nice, nice large grassy site, included water and electric.  We have a TT, so never used their bathhouse.  We were more interested in Cedar Point than the campground, so it didn't bother us.  We were gone early in the day and stayed until late at night.  The campground was about a 15 minute drive from the park.  It worked well for us.

Loved Cedar Point!  Rode all the coasters except Top Thrill Dragster.  We rode Kingda Ka at Great Escape in NJ last year which is identical except just a bit faster and higher.  Didn't want to stand in 1.5 hour line again for a 10 second ride.  Maverick was GREAT.

we were thinking of going there to camp and ride.  maybe will look into the ohter campgrounds, but sure is hard to beat the proximity.  we also use our porta-potti when need be.  no campfires could be a dealbreaker, though.

...and here is that map of the campground!
link is at the bottom of the page.
