Hello!
I just bought a 1977 Jayco Finch, the first trailer I've owned! (Camped growing up in everything from a home-built pop-up [that went from St. Louis to Jasper and back!] to Airstreams) I bought it from a private owner, who told me what hitch ball I would need. The tow home got me wondering if I had the wrong size though. because there was an odd front-to-back "sloshing" motion at times. I'm towing with a 1997 Toyota RAV-4. (4 cylinder, front-wheel drive)

Your thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

PU's only use 2 balls sizes since day one. Older PU's with a GVWR of under 2000 pound or ture tent topped campers MAY use an 1 7/8" ball. Hard top PU's since the early 90's ALL use a 2" ball.
The size should be stamped into the coupler end.

A lot of "clunking" is caused by loose fit between the holding pin and the holes in the drawbar and receiver AND a loose fit between the drawbar and receiver opening.

You don't mention rather the tow vehicle is an automatic transmission or a manual.

Here's something I've seen used before, especially with manual transmissions ~
