What do you like for Stabilizer jacks?

Well, after camping on a slope and taking the wheel chocks out before raising my stabilizer jack, I need to replace one.

I have the Atwood stabilizer jack like this:


I'm not real impressed with the way these work after getting a little sand near them, or should I say, they dont work. Is there a better alternative? This is for a 10' Jayco popup. Thanks-Dan

A small square of 1/2" plywood under each stabilizer will be sufficient to work in sand or soft soil.  No need to have anything more expensive.

My 95 Coleman has the Atwood type that you pictured and they have always worked fine for me. Once in a while depending how the site is slopped I may have to add a board or two under one of them because they are not quite long enough but that is not very often.

What I meant by sand is, I'm guessing its from the drive to the campsite, I always seem to get caught in the rain. The roads are wet and some dirt road, the dirt gets in the jack and they dont slide like they should. I have to constantly take them apart and clean them out.

I had the swing down jacks on my first PU and I didn't like them either.  I like the crank down jacks I have now much better.  I can adjust them to the exact height I want them at.:)

Oh I see, we don't have that problem with ours for some reason.  Hubby does keep them lubbed with white lithium though, which doesn't attract dirt.  Maybe you could try that.  You can buy the crank-down stabilizers by BAL though, which would probably work better than the ones you posted a link to.

I've had both on different trailers and went as far as cutting off the swing down ones and replacing them with crank downs.
FYI: there are two versions of the crank downs. One has a longer throw and is designed for tailer with axle flips/spring over axle trailers to help make up for the increased frame to ground height.
