Well, we leave Thursday at noon for the south rim of the Grand Canyon!

600 and some miles, 11.5hrs and 30 gallons of fuel away!

We're staying in Mather from the 1st through the 6th, but down inside the canyon hiking on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with out 8 year old DD.

Time to popup, and start loading gear!  I'm chomping at the bit to leave!

See you there. We are heading out around 9-10 am on Friday the 1st. Should take us around 4 hours to get there and the line at the gate to get in.

I have been working on the PU for the last day and half. Almost there.

Have a safe drive.

Thanks, you guys too!  Looking forward to meeting all of you.

The camper is washed, battery is on the charger, tires aired up, fridge is making cold and the Suburban is sitting on a fresh oil change, new spark plugs and freshly rebuilt (and broken in) rearend.  We're ready to roll!

I know you guys are all going to have a great time. Even though we were just there in June I wish I was going back. I want to see some pictures from down in the Canyon. We had the pleasure of meeting Joe and Mary and they are great people.

Gonna take some movies with the digital camera that I can post to photobucket when I get back, so that might be kinda cool.

Just weighed my pack and I'm still under 30lbs.  That's a whole lot better than the 38 I intended to carry last year in that 55 gallon drum I strapped to my back.....not to mention the 50 that I actually did carry after I raided my wife's pack to take more load off her.  Should be a much better trip down and up.

Here's a good one.  While camping in June the fridge pilot kept blowing out.  I think it was due to a side wind that was blowing up into the louvers, because when the wind finally died down, the pilot stayed on all night and the next day.  Anyway, fired it up today and it kept going out. Checked and adjusted the propane pressure, still no joy so I banged on the safety valve and the pipe to the burner with a small wrench and all these little "ash sparks" came out of the burner with the pilot flame.  I shut it off, opened the pressure test port and blew threw it towards the burner and in the burner box, and up the chimney and air supply tubes with compressed air.  Fired it back up and it had cooled down to 27*F in just a couple of hours!  In fact, I just went out and adjusted the thermostat so now it's sitting at 40.  Be interesting if it's performance is improved now.

My wife and I met a couple of ladies while we were hiking this past weekend that were getting in shape for their trip to the Grand Canyon in September. They were going to hike down to the bottom where they have reservations at the Phantom Ranch. That really sounded very cool.
We will be on the North Rim in a cabin at the end of August.

I hope you all have fun.
