Tractor Rim for Firepit

One campground that we go to has a tractor rim for your firepit, with no grate for cooking.  Thus said, does anyone have any ideas of an easy way to build like a half-grate that could be laid on top of the tractor rim so we can still cook, or any other ideas.  We use our dutch oven all the time over open flame and coals and rarely cook inside.

Thanks for your help!

Oven racks make excellent fire grates.   I kept mine from my previous stove for camping use - don't know how much new ones cost.  Good luck with whatever you choose!

An oven rack is a good idea, but the spacing of the rods may be a little wide.  Check out where appliance recycling is done in your area, I'm sure you can get a grate for nothing.

Another idea is Home Depot/Lowes.  The both sell replacement grates for Webber kettle grills.  That's what I use.

Thanks for the ideas.  Should be strong enough to hold my dutch oven pot too.

You might look at the selection of replacement grill grates at your local Menards or Lowe's store for a solution that might suit you.

Or, have someone at a local shop stickweld a rebar grill for you to support your heavy ovens.

Third suggestion might be a tripod style grill like http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0009522512974a.shtml
