No such thing as too young......your PUP is a home on wheels, and babies are adaptable....if the parents are.

Enjoy

my youngest was 3 months when we went.  I dont think waiting protects them from anything.  The first trip was a little rough because they were very excited about being in a tent - I recommend the trip not being the first time they have been in or gone to sleep in whatever your mode of camping is.  We rented a pop-up when my daughter was very young and set up the pack and play in the pop up...was the same as being in the house for her!

I do think it is more about the parents than the kids if you decide to wait! Which isnt a bad thing but to each their own!  And also, the earlier they start the more routine it becomes and you dont have to deal with the adjustment thing....

We never had second thoughts when we first started taking our 3 mo. old Granddaughter camping last summer.  This year, at 14 months, she's a gas!  Up on the bunkend w/Grandpa, down on the table with Grandma, don't eat rocks, leave the frog alone.  Naps can be a little dicey as she wants to be up and seeing everything.  She scoots around on her butt instead of crawling so we always have a dirty butt and side of her leg, but she's fun!  (Took 3 steps this weekend!) We're taking her and her 4 yr. old brother (different Dad's) camping on the 23rd.  He's never been camping, but I'm sure he'll be OK.  Their single mom is just so glad we have an interest in her and is estatic that we pay attention to her brother (as his dad doesn't) and include him occasionally in activities.  I put all of her clothes, diapers, wipes, suncreen, etc. in a large rubbermaid-type tub which I can leave outside if need be.  We also have a Superyard Portable Playyard for the outside so I don't have to chase her all the time.  Have fun!

We took ours tent camping when they were very little under a year......If you are worried try camping close to home then if it doesn't work for you pack up and head home.  At least you will be able to give it a try and maybe it'll be fun and you'll do it again.  As far as the crying I've been next to a two year old that drove the whole CG crazy.  People understand little ones it's the ones throwing fits that drive us nuts.....Good luck and Happy Camping enjoy the little one.....They grow up sooooooooooooooo fast..

27 months.  My daughter was a late talker, at 27 months we had a dozen words.  During a weekend of camping we got "trees, birds, sky, sun, moon, stars" and a bunch more.  Our first camping trip was a breakthrough for talking.

I spent more time worrying about what she would do, how to keep her safe, sleeping arrangements than I did where we were camping.  As you would expect, she loved being outdoors and looking at the night sky.  We play "camping" under blankets quite often.

Adjust your activities to let them explore and share the joy of outdoors.

3 weeks old when Jessie went on her first trip. It was 100+ degrees the whole weekend. High 80's/low 90's at night. Granted, we weren't outside much, but we were camping and enjoying it.

Here is Holly giving Jessie a bath outside on the picnic table on Jessie's first camping trip.

The second is me and 3 week-old Jessie enjoying a little bunk time.

A couple weeks ago for the first time since my youngest was born in Feb. '07 we went camping for 2 nights.  We decided to leave him with grandma for the weekend and I was really going back and forth with that decision even right up to handing him over.

In the end I was actually glad we did on the first trip back out becuase........

#1 DH needed my hands helping him set up... since it had been a couple years.

#2 There were swarms of yellow jacket/ meat bees all over the place where we were so it would have been really bad with him being that little.... I would have been a wreck!

I've decided the next trip we make we will for sure bring him along.... we are planning Oct/Nov so he will be 20/21 months.  I'm still not sure of course how it will go......... but I'm really hoping for the best!

well, I took my kids as early as I could:)  My youngest was 9 months on his first camping trip, but that's because he was born in the freezing month of Nov. and we didn't have money to drive 5 hours aways and camp until Aug!  But he did great:)  I agree with others and I say you should include your children in on what you love, and teach them the appropriate behavior for the situation:)

here are me and my three boys on our first mommy and three sons trip:)
(Daddy doesn't camp)

If this isn't a happy camper, I don't know what is:

In his pack and play in the camper:

good times!
