Hello,
We are in the hunt for a popup.  Would prefer used or rather "new to us".
Not in a hurry and don't want to make a rash decision.  We have only a 19'
garage and a 3500lb tow limit to work with.  Locally, there is a 06' Starcraft
2107 and a 07' Sea Pine available.  Can anyone give us information on these
brands and models?
We like both brands for different reasons, but would like to know what brands
age better than others.  The husband likes the slide out feature on some popups,
I prefer the u-shaped dinettes and couch seating.  Otherwise, we don't have any
hard and fast rules on must have features.  Only needs to sleep 5 to 6 (our
sons like to bring their friends).
So, the big question is:  how old would you buy and what are the best brands
and floor plans to search for?
Thanks for your help,
Dawn

If the camper has been well maintained, you can go back pretty far for a new to you camper.  The materials used from one brand to the next aren't vastly different and both manufacturers you mention have a good reputation, with the Fleetwood probably selling more.

The floorplans you mentioned are similar but flipped with the U and the dinette at opposite ends, it appears.  Take a look at each and simply see which one you like better and which on appears to be in better shape.  You can probably tow either of them, though I'd look into wether or not your T/V should have a transmission cooler- with a 3500 tow rating, it may be the case.  I'd also be careful with that rating about looking into models with the slide outs.  By the time you add your gear and a potential AC, propane tank(s) etc, you might be getting up pretty close to your maximum tow rating if you have the slide-outs.

Good luck.

We had a sea pine for several years, bought new in 99, and traded up in 2007. We never had a problem with the lift mechanics, towing, etc. Overall it was a great PUP for us. Good luck with your decision. You can nevewr go wrong being outside

Welcome!

You've received some great advice so far.  I'd add to that; Take a look at the quality of manufacturing and materials used in each, and give the details of the roof some really close scrutiny.

Buy the one that appears to have been built the best, both in design and materials.....thinking in terms of longevity.  In terms of space and resale, the slide out model is probably the one to have.  More space inside means you spend less time "dancing" around each other when moving around.

Of course the overall weight is a factor too, and definately check into whether or not you need a transmission cooler.   If you're towing in any sort of heat, or hills, the transmission oil will get hot fast and that's the death of an automatic transmission
