Greetings everyone.  We will be going to San Clemente State Beach for 3 nights and were wondering if anyone has a preview.  We know the area well (we got married there) but never camped.  It will also be our longest tow to date (415 miles each way) and our TV has close 100,000 miles so we will go easy on the old mule.  Any info would be usefull.  Hope everyone had a great summer of camping.

You are doing the right thing by going in October across the desert rather than July or Aug.

We camped at San Clemente campground about 2 yrs ago. We had a hookup site. The campground is on a bluff. There is a little bit of hike to the beach.  So make sure you don't forget anything when you head to the beach to hang out.  There are two paths, one is shorter with more of an incline and the other is longer but not as steep. If you are in the non hookup site you are closer to the bluffs so you have better views of the ocean. They are also larger sites. The campground itself was well maintained. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Clean restrooms/showers. With having the little ones, they have family restrooms that have the shower/sink and toilet in them. It just makes it easier with kids.

There is also other hiking trails that take you down toward the beach area but you end up right by a snack shack.

The town beach is nice and we spent part of a day along the pier and had lunch. It was a great time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback.  We are in a non hookup site (by design) close to the bluff.  It is a great beach town for day activities.  It will be our first trip to the beach with PUP and we are exited.  Just go a new battery for trailer and tires for TV, we are ready!!  Hope all is well...
