DH and I were talking tonight about needing to replace the mattresses.  I'm clueless on where we would go to get new foam?  I'm thinking a fabric store... but not sure if they would have thicker foam?

Any suggestions?

Leave your existing mattresses intact.  They make a great base mattress.  Run over to Costco and buy their 2" Nova Foam (memory foam) mattress topper w/ zippered cover.  Throw that on, make your bed as you would at home, and enjoy sleeping again.  When it's time to pop down, remove the blankets, but leave the topper in place.  If you've got kidlets, buy the 1" version from Target or Walmart.

I have the 1-1/2" Memory Foam toppers on my bunk ends, and have found them to be very comfortable.  You might want to do the tissue box test (set an empty box of tissues on your bunk and close the roof - the amount that isn't crushed is how much space you will have) before buying a memory foam topper.

When I first got my topper, I had to manually lay the 'bow support' down, but it's been a few years and it now lays flat when I go to close the camper.

Others mention using an air mattress either on top or below the existing mattresses....I decided against that due to my dogs and their claws!

I have 2 inch memory foam that i purchased from JC Penneys on line catolog and purchased the cover from Overstocked. com

and I love them-- the foam to replace the existing ones was way to expensive.
