We have an oven in the new hybrid and I have to admit I really like it.  We also DO but only at rally's.

Okay so I pulled the DO that we have out..... the lid doesn't quite fit... you can tell the lid isn't the one that is meant for the pot.  I mean it goes on but wiggles a tad and doesn't seal it tight like DH says its suppose to????

How important is it for the lid to seal tight?

The really good ones have a nice "Snug" fit. The ones that we have are from Harbor Freight. The fit isn't as good but they work just fine.

You just don't want any gaps.

I also use the RVQ as an oven, baking cakes, biscuits, cookies, and acorn squash.  It does have some disadvantages, in the limited size that you can fit in it, erratic temperatures depending on wind and ambient temperature, and you can't use it for baking and grilling at the same time.

I don't use dutch ovens, because I don't want to mess with the storage and weight.  All of my cooking gear is lightweight aluminum which stores within itself and would double for backpacking or bicycle touring camping as well as  in the popup.  The weight of cast iron dutch ovens or even the thick aluminum DO's would be too much for these purposes. Although I record and enjoy watching all of dutch oven cooking shows on Direct TV, at this time I would rather be out doing something active outdoors than tending to a DO.

This is no joke. Go to an auto parts store and buy some valve lapping compound. Put it on the edge of the oven and spin the lid slowly, using the lid to grind the edge of the DO. Repeat until you have a perfectly mated surface between the DO's lid and edge. Even if the lid wiggles a bit, side-to-side, the weight of the lid and the surity of the seal will accomplish the job.

Quote from: dkutzDutch Oven baby!!  Obviously haven't been to any of our potlucks.  Lori's monkey rolls. are great.  I make a mean "Bear Lovers Choclate cake".  We make apple crisp, and sweet corn,, german pancakes, you name it.  Basically anything you can make in an oven you can make in a DO.

Start shopping now!

I haven't been teasing you!  :S

Can I Please have your recipie for "Bear Lovers Choclate cake" ?
Sounds Yummy!

I love my two DO's - I have one larger one and one smaller cheapie from Harbor Freight or somewhere similar.  However, I can't ever seem to get a good finish on the big one. (If I try to do it inside the house in the house oven, I smoke out the household, and I don't have a large grill or anywhere to season it properly outside)
