Yikes.  I don't think I would have messed with the pit bull woman, either.

Actually, Spanky does well when left in the car.  I think in the car he realizes we're coming right back.  But that's no good in the summer.  It's much better for him in the cool of Grandma's house.

The problem with no leaving him in the PUP is our boys are young (2 and almost 4.)  Most activities require the attention of both parents.  For example, swimming.  Neither is big enough to swim yet or be left alone in the water, so we are both needed.  In that case, there's no way for the dog to come along.

As I mentioned, he used to tent camp with us before children when we camped with another couple.  When we hit the beach, I stayed back in the grass with the dog while the other three swam.  I was fine with that.  I don't have that option with two little ones.

My mother keeps him when we're gone and she came to visit the camp site a couple weeks back and brought him along and it was nice to have him there.  Maybe in the fall when the activity options for the kids are no more than riding bikes or the playground, I will have a chance to include our third son.

well, I've been bringing him this year, but I admit I brought him home one night and came back in the morning for him because he was being SO REDICULOUS in the camper at night!  Scratching the door and whimpering etc.  I ended up sleeping with his crate in my bed and him in his crate, locked in the rest of the summer because that way he couldn't jump around the camper and whine as much.
He was SO HAPPY during the day in the campground.  Doggy delight:)

Well, I have four now, once in a while all four will come with us.. Two love camping and want to stay out all the time. The other two want to stay in all the time. My older girl can not climb the stairs so she will stay inside until she needs to go out. Having four will really keep you up all night for the first night. So daughter stays with two most of the time at our house. I did fine that most of the camp ground did not mind you keeping them inside when you were gone. Of course A/C has to be on.
