just made some repairs on my bunk-ends (didn't take pix's) and wanted to report...i cleaned the mildew with tilex, rinsed well, fixed the holes and tears with a vinyl backed canvas (from local awning/canvas dude) patch glued with weldwood contact cement, i used a circular shaped patch, because i heard that corners are the first to peel...the seams that were ripped i used 3M 5200 to seal the seam, and used the speedy stitcher to sew the seams together. it has rained since i did the patching and the only leak i noticed was the tilex removed any waterproofing on the canvas, so i will scotch guard the canvas to reapply waterproofing. i think it went very well!i think the contact cement will hold for a long time, and it easy to keep on board for quick on the spot repairs...now i just need to clean up the rest of the canvas, and i am good to go!

Glad to hear that all seemed to go well. We do have to take points off for not having pictures though. We like pictures! Replace the waterproof and off ya go! (Or just stay out of the rain)

Hi,

I bought a 2000 Coleman Niagara Elite PU recently and some of the seams had come apart.  I sewed one of them by hand.  What do you mean by speedy stitcher?

Thanks, Glenna

after one camping trip with no rain, i can't give a definite answer as to whether the fix held or not, and the PUP is hibernating right now, AND our TV went caput! we are looking at a nissan/toyota crew cab p/u as the new and improved TV...anyway the speedy sticher is this: http://www.speedystitcher.com/

a canvas repairers best friend! you can find it at marine stores, west marine, boat US, etc...i think i paid about $11? it works great! just be careful you don't puncture your hand!  :yikes:

good luck! come on spring!

Thanks for the info.  I bought a Nissan Frontier PU truck (king cab) several months ago.  It  is a 2006 and only had 14K miles on it.  It was almost like new.  So far I really like it.
