Fleetwood Westlake Air Conditioner Problem

I bought a 2007 Westlake in Nov 2006...A/C worked great until Sep 2007 and about 4 trips.  After running for 3 hot days in FL and as I was packing up to leave, I noticed an electrical burning smell coming from the A/C vents and no cooling air.  Fan was still running. I shut it off and closed up the camper.  A few weeks later I took it to a Fleetwood repair place to have it checked out.  They ran it for 8 hours and said it worked fine.  They said it may have been a low voltage situation at the camp site.  Didn't go camping again until Jul 08...A/C ran from 2pm to 11pm just fine, then the same problem came up again.  It will "buzz" for a few seconds then stop, with the same burning smell.  The fan still runs.  Sounds like the A/C is trying to start but can't.  I shut it off and tried again with the same problem.  Unplugged and cycled shore power breakers and tried again with same results.  Everything else in the camper is working fine.  I can find no other entries with this problem.  All the popups around me had A/C units that are working fine.  If it's not low voltage, what could it be?   Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is it a hot smell or a bitter electrical smell, what brand of AC and did the dealer check amperages while starting and running or check compressor pressures or did they just run it for 8 hrs ??? because your time frame is 9 hrs before you had a problem.Best of luck getting it working.Could be high head pressure and the unit is getting very hot and cycling on the thermal overload.

Mike/Toni...It doesn't seem like a hot smell and no smoke...more like a bitter electrical...it is a RV Products 8000 series model...pretty common with Fleetwood popups.  I don't know if the dealer checked the amperages but I suspect they just popped it up and ran it.  I've read some posts in which people have added a "compressor assist" to the AC to help it get started.  This situation is kind of like a car that will crank but not start.  I can hear the compressor trying but just won't stay running.  Maybe the AC just needs an assist.  Anyway, apparently I have a few more months on my AC warranty so I'll have someone take a look at it in the next few days.  Thanks for your reply...if I get it fixed, I will post the results :)

Apparently, the A/C had a bad capacitor, which had started to melt but would still continue functioning for several hours...a great RV dealership and repair center called Longview RV in Dover FL found the problem and fixed it.  Thanks to them, the AC won't be a problem anymore.

The air conditioner is a dealer add on.  The brand of air conditioner on a PU is up to the dealer/customer.  When I added an air conditioner to my PU back in 2003 I told the dealership that I wanted a Carrier.  They didn't usually install Carrier, but ordered it in for me.  I have never heard of RV Products air conditioners.
