Plastic razor blades are made for removing decals.  Or, if you have an air compressor, there is an "eraser" tool that fits into the end of your air powered die-grinder.  It's a special rubber wheel that will "burn" off the old decals without harming the paint.

Try buffing and polishing the camper body before you decide to paint it.

I think unless you're willing to use automotive quality primers and paints, you won't be happy with the results or with how long the "repaint" lasts.

Meguiar's #6 Cleaner Wax will really bring back most finishes......just by hand.  If you need to go more aggressive than that, use it with a polisher or buffer. Then seal it up with their #26.

Try a hair dryer.  It loosens the glue and makes it easier to peel off.  One of my sons showed me this when they removed the decals off of the tail gate of his truck.

will try the two methods you guys suggested, Do you know what the finish is made of.....i thought it was tin but its some sort of plastic or vinyl.  Not sure if i want to do a full paint job so will see about buffing it up.

The skin of the Dutchmens are a plastic/fiberglass laminate, much like a bathroom wall in the gas station. It is very hard to clean because of it's built in texture. Paint won't stay on for long. I used an adhesive remover from Wal-Mart that worked well for removing the silcone from the roof. That might be a good option after using a hair dryer to remove the first layer. To replace these, you'll need a very good quality automotive style decal in order to make it last.

The rubber wheel will burn through the enamel down to bare metal very quickly. I've been trying to take the decals off of my pup and still haven't found a good way to do it. I tried the rubber wheel. I tried it at various speeds and it burned through the enamel in a couple of spots. The spots it did not burn through, it left a red stain where the stripe used to be. Be very careful if you decide to go with the rubber wheel. I think i'm just going to let nature take its course and then put some new ones on.

Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

I took my time and used a razor blade, then before painting, I sanded all areas around there and make sure you use a degreaser/cleaner before painting. 90% of the paint job is prepping!!!

Before....

After.....

CK - you are a wonderful artist!
One other thing to try for cleaning up the outside is a RV Wash. A special soap for campers that removes most anything except tar. There are several manufacturers out there, an item you'll find at a RV dealer parts dept. That did a nice job for me after 6 years of storage.

After you have removed the vinyl try Ronsonal lighter fluid to remove the adhesive. Try a small spot first to make sure it won
