Quote from: DK&3kidsDan will check out Reflection Lake, but DO NOT get your hopes up.  Now, things could've changed, but it used to be quite the dump and was basically a residential type place.  It would be GREAT if it has changed - been quite awhile since we've traveled that road.

Now, having said that, Lake Hemet is nice.  It's actually up the hill not too far from Idyllwild.  We have shore fished and although it's a "no-contact" lake, you can take out small boats....like let's say a CANOE!  (see Dee - he WILL use it someday!hahaha).

Also, there is lakeside camping at Santee Lakes down by San Diego, but it's more along the lines of ponds than lakes - and no swimming or boating.

This is so funny to me when I first posted about this place had no hits/replys now have ScCampers checking it out.......Heeheeeee
They do have a nice video and make it sound nice don't they but I too was a bit worried about it due to it being in the desert and never hearing anything about it....Hummmm we'll see what is said about it......Dump/Nice ???  I'm on pins and needles................

We'll let you know Carol - it would be GREAT if it's nice - it's an easy to get to location.

Quote from: JohnandLeannLake San Antonio Has "north shore" dry camping at the lake side.  Honey huts close to the water, but also has permanent restrooms and showers nearby in campground.  South shore has developed campsites with w&e.  It is located in Monterey County, north of Paso Robles.  Nacimiento Lake is next door in San Luis County, but has no shore camping.  Both lakes are full contact lakes.

Just looked at their website and they have added houseboats for rent!  Kinda pricey but if split between families, might not be too bad.

We have camped at Lake San Antonio a few times.
It is lakeside camping, just find a spot between two campers and squeeze in.
As it is lakeside, there are no hookups, but who cares, you have the lake only a few feet away, and the children were able to swim in the lake all day.
Sitting by the campfire in the evenings listening to the water close by was magical.
It does get hot during the summer, and you get woken up early by the water skiers looking for the flat water to ski on.
There are full hook up sites available, but we prefer the dry camping next to the lake.

This is one time I am happy to be wrong (or really just outdated!).

Dan stopped by Reflection Lake RV in Hemet and he was pleasantly surprised.  Years ago when we'd pass by, it was not much to speak of and very residential in a bad way.  Now, he said he'd camp there.  The sites are laid out around the lake, but not a lot of grass.  The sites are parallel pull throughs to the lake.  It has a pool and a new playground.  The permanent residents are over on a separate lake.  The "lakes" are actually stocked ponds.  He will upload pics when he gets a chance.

One fair warning.  It is within a mile of 2 major dairy farms.  Warm weather can bring flies.  When Dan was there, he noticed a few flies and no smell.

People were very nice and willing to offer group rates for 10 or more.  Potentially the group would surround the lake.

Okay - that's all I know.  Stay tuned for his pics!;)

How about Lake Casitas?  If you camp in Fox, 1 whole side is on the lake side.  The sites aren't far from the lake at all.   Check it out.

You got THAT right Carol!!!!  I wouldn't consider camping there June-Oct.  It can be quite warm here - but the rest of the year we generally have good weather.
