What are your plans for 09?

With the new year upon us I am curious as to everyones camping plans for this year. Gas is expected to rise again but hopefully not to the levels that we saw last year. I saw in our local paper today that camping fees in the Prescott National Forest in AZ is raising it's day use and camper fees. I can only suspect that it is happening in other parts of the country as well.

We try to get out once a month even if it's just a short overnighter. We plan on making at least one trip up to a favorite campground in Payson, AZ this summer and I'm really determined to make it over by Prescott, AZ this summer too. We are planning a trip to CA but at this point we are unsure whether it will be a camping trip or staying with our in-laws or maybe half and half. Our kids really want to go back to Universal Studios. I also want to do some camping around Flagstaff. We are going to Las Vegas in March to visit my folks and had planned on also going camping in Death Valley but scheduling problems has forced us to cut out the Death Valley portion. We are going to attempt that next year when I get my third week of vacation time.

What's on your agenda?

We plan 20 nights camping in 2009 through early November, with most trips local (Illinios, Indiana, Kentucky) with an eight-day longer trip within a 600 to 800 mile radius. In addition, if the weather allows, we may try camping for Thanksgiving again in Kentucky.

Happy New Year, Everyone!

I can't wait to start camping again!  We've already booked 2 trips to the Delaware State Park 'shore' parks and plan to go to Assateague NP and the Cape Cod Nat'l Seashore, as well as several more Delaware shore trips beginning in May and going through October.

Have to go, oldest son just informed me that his mp3 player is in his jeans pocket; naturally the jeans happen to be in the machine in the middle of the 'heavy wash' cycle...

Cape Cod will be nice. If you haven't been there before I would suggest stopping at Plymouth Plantation. It's a great learning experience for the kids as well as adults. I grew up in MA and I miss the Cape.

Good luck with the MP3 player.

On about July 31st we'll return to the Grand Canyon.  This will our 3rd trip and this year we're hiking rim-to-rim over a 4 day/3 night trek.  Really looking forward to that.

We also will return to Kings Canyon/Sequouia Nat'l Parks and this time explore the Sequoia Nat'l Park side, which we haven't been too yet.

We'll also do some closer local stuff as time permits.

But for now.... my skis are itchy and :yikes: There's fresh snow in the mountains until late April with any luck!

We are taking our "Big Trip" this year - out to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Teton.  We will be leaving as soon as the boys are out of school, which should be the second week of June.  We plan on at least 14-16 days on the road.  My mother-in-law will be joining us, but we plan to fly her out part way and pick her up in South Dakota, then fly her home from Denver.  No need for her to endure the long drive there and back.  We plan on camping for all but a few nights.  There will be a family visit stop or two along the way.

If we are lucky, we will also be snagging a camp site on one of the Floriday Keys over the Christmas/NY holiday, too.

Other trips will be local, for 4-wheeling and quick getaways for canoeing.

We hope to camp at least once a month from late March till October. Our trips are weekenders within  50 miles from home.
