Hi,

I have a 2000 Coleman Niagara Elite.  The tires are size ST185/80 D13  3 ply.  I am not sure if the tires are original or what I am guessing they are original).  The last time I camped with the group it was suggested to me that I replace my tires.  Here is my question: where do I buy them, and should I get a heavier ply tire or what?

Thanks, Glenna (guinea)

hello guinea,

I also have a coleman niagara elite (2001)  i'm no tire expert, but I have heard that you don't need a heavier ply tire just make sure your replacement tires are the same D rating.  If you go with a C rated tire you risk the chance of putting too much load on your tires.  I hope this helps you.

Take a look at the sidewalls. If you see cracking, I'd replace them.   Look at the tread too.  If the tread is worn weird, like uneven, saw toothed, bald on one side, etc. that's another indication it's time to replace.

They are readily available from your local tire stores, just be sure to get that same "D" rating as has been mentioned.

Type your tire size into Google and you'll find quite a few online retailers that carry them.

We purchased ours at

http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20TIRES/Duro/Trailer/duro_trailer_tires_ST.htm

and had them installed at Discount Tire. They are a hard tire size to find. Definitely go with the D rating.

Hope this helps.

I really doubt 3-ply will cut it.
For a Niagara, you need tires with 1660 lb rating (each).

 Look at the Duro's here:

The tires unlimited should work, or can buy here:

I have bought them at JC Whitney, but cannot find them now.

I just replaced that same size of tires on my Coleman Bayside Elite and I faced similar questions.

I think your Niagara has similar gross vehicle weight to my unit: 3450 lbs.   So you definitely want a load range D tire, as HaroldPE, MaryRomeo and everyone else has been saying.  That's got 8 plys, not 3.

The reason to emphasize this is that the load range C is more commonly available.  When I went to a chain store, they pulled out their Carlisle book and found a ST185/80 D 13, but it was a C not a D.  The D in the number means Diagonal (bias) ply, of course, not load range.

You have to be careful to confirm load range.  For example, the tires haroldPE linked to at KMT are actually load range C.  I only say this to point out how the info you need can be buried on the page.
(I think KMT has a D as well.  Try:

I got my tires pre-mounted on new wheels from Brandon Dubberly at Down to Earth Trailers
They were very helpful and shipped very fast, but it was best to call them on the phone.

I have purchased my replacement Duro tires at JC Whitney.  My experience is to have them shipped normally and not to pay for express shipping.  The come in less than a week.
