Darn, could not get into Yosemite

I was trying to get into the Yosemite valley campgrounds for a trip in June. I am well aware of the rolling reservations window and the heavy competion, so I was sitting at the ready Sun Feb 15 at 6:30 am PST with two computers primed and ready to go. No luck this time. I got in last year and the year before. I'll try again come Mar 15 for a July trip. I want to repeat a hike up Half Dome -I am proud of my Half Dome hike last year in a very respectable 10 hours- and also want do the Panorama trail. Those hikes are 'easier' if base camp is in the valley.

I still want to go on that June trip, so I booked a spot in the Yosemite Pines commercial campground in Groveland instead. Been there before. It is a good campground. It'll just take some driving in and out of the park.

I'll try to get into Yosemite again come Mar 15 for a July trip. Wish me luck.

Search Craigslist for "yosemite" and you'll find people selling their camping reservations.  Not cheap, but at least you can get in.

Half Dome is on my list.  I've never done it, and want to.  But man that's a long walk.

Have you hiked the Grand Canyon?  If not, I highly recommend it.  We've done that 2 years in a row now, each August.  Going back this year again and going rim to rim this time.

My Mother grew up in California.  When she was a kid her brother held onto her and she leaned out over the edge of Halfdome.  She said nothing had ever topped that view.
