sewer line in driveway

I have a sewer line access in my driveway.  The pvc cap is flat on top.  It has a recess in it that is very similar to the Chevy emblem.  Does anyone know how I can open it?  There must be a special tool for this?

Sounds like a sewer clean out cap - and you would unscrew it to access.  As I don't know how big the cap is (3" or maybe 4"), I'd look for something bladed that would fit in the 'groove' and unscrew it carefully.  (Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey).  (small flat shovel, another sewer cap with the square top inverted might also fit-if it doesn't open easily you might use a rubber mallet gently on whatever blade you use as a screwdriver)

Also, not knowing how your sewer line is set up, I'd be cautious in dumping a large quantity at one time as it could generate a back up and a mess for your home plumbing/drainage.  My plumber father told me years back that to make dumping of the RV easier using the clean out, I might want to run the house bathtub to pick up the flow of the dump (hope that makes sense to you).

A lot of people use their clean-out trap as an RV dump.

As PattieAM stated, be cautious the 1st time that you use it. You might want to tick a garden hose down it and run it full blast to clean it out (it's a good idea to do that once in awhile to do that anyway).

If you don't mind getting your hose dirty, shove the hose down the opening and wash it out really good. Just wear gloves and clean the hose off after you're finished.

When you start using it as an RV dump, just wash it out really good each time and it can actually be a good thing for your sewer system because it will keep it cleaned out..

I had one installed in my yard when my sewer collapsed. I use the blade of a flat shovel to open it.

They do make a tool for it. It is called a "Drum Tap Wrench" as seen on this page
