The only season that we have in the WV state fishing regulations is for frogs. You can fish for trout anytime. It is better after the DNR stocks though.

Here in MI it's the last Sat. in April. Even then some years we get snow. Opener weekend it's fairly crowded on the streams, so I go to a friends opener weekend party for a giant fish fry (winter/spring caught steelhead, walleye, and perch), with many friends I only see once a year, and then the next week I go and meet a bunch for fly fishing. In MI this early it can be hit or miss, the bugs (and the trout that eat them)really depend on the weather. All in all though I look forward to it all winter, if the trout are not biting we still know how to relax (eat and drink and tell lies)....Shredder

I have a daughter up your way and SIL works for GM (at least the last time we talked!) and before gas prices got too high I would pull the PU up that way. Really have enjoyed fishing the Au Sable from Mio downriver to the 4001 bridge. Beautiful strech of river and Huron Nat'l Forest. Have not fished that area since '03. Have also fished upriver from Mio but like I say, like that downriver run really well. That stretch from Mio downriver to McKinley use to be trophy waters ... is it still so?

Thanks,

Fly

Our waters are too warm to support freshwater trout. However our saltwater marsh and coastal waters are loaded with sea trout, or as we call them, "speckled trout". No season on them, you can fish for them year around and each person can keep 25 per day 12 inches or better.

Yes it is, big water and hard to wade, but big fish, and a nice float trip. 4001 to Alcona pond is excellent small mouth water. Upstream is the "holy waters" and it's smaller and more wadable. I retired from that big brick building just upstream from the Mio bridge over the AuSable. Most of my fly fishing is on the Manistee River though, really pretty and less fished. Once in a while I'll sneak off to the UP for some truely remote fishing. After the big hex hatch (june-july)I stay closer to home and catch blue gills and walleye....shredder

Pa has a split season...1st weekend in April in the southeastern part of the state (counties surrounding philly) and april 18th for the rest of the state.  I can't wait either, our annual first day trip is on the 18th...

No "official" season CC. But those of us who've been trying to find them this past winter realize that the trout tend to impose their own "season". :-)

Least the redfish still bite.

They can be hard to find sometimes. Usually feast or famine. Specks should be moving into open waters now.

cable guy

I just tried my new fly rod during our camping trip last weekend. Are there any good Fly Fishing websites you recommend?

Probably there are a some local or regional web sites for the particular area  you live in, but for a national website "Fly Anglers On Line" is a good source of information ~

For the fourms click on "Bulletin Board". But beware ... fly fisherman are obsessive about you doing things their way and hair spitting on any topic you bring up! Worse than popup campers!
