Planning a trip to Big South Fork end of May.  Which campground would you recommend - Bandy Creek or Blue Heron?  Blue Heron seems closer to more stuff but Bandy Creek is larger.  Any must see/do's while we are there. Interested in rafting, possible train ride, yahoo falls.  Any info would be great.

Bandy Creek is larger and has a nice visitors center and swimming pool and there are lots of hiking/biking trails nearby.  There's also a stable there, but they no longer offer trail rides.  There are some other vendors in the area that do however.  There's just more to do in the Bandy Creek area.  Blue Heron is ok, but it's smaller and not much to do there.  If you have time, take a drive down to Rugby, TN.  It's an old Victorian village and it's really interesting to visit.  Check out the Twin Arches trail in the Big South Fork... the trail takes you to 2 large natural arches that are quite impressive.  It's not a long trail, but there are several ladders/stairs you have to climb.  We love this area, we will be camping @ BC for Memorial Day weekend and our camping club will be there in September when they host the "Haunting in the Hills" storytelling festival.  You can take a drive up to the train... it's a lot of fun.  I don't know anything about the rafting, I'm just not into that.  But I think there are outfitters in the area.
Have a great trip.

Another vote for Bandy Creek (although I've never been to Blue Heron, so take that with a grain of salt).  But BC is hands down one of the nicest cg's I've ever seen.  I like the C and D loops the best.  I would definitely say that everything CamperT said is right on the money.

Vote #3 for Bandy Creek.

Thanks to CamperT, I was introduced to Bandy Creek about 5 or 6 years ago. One of my favorite places, but a far drive for us.
