I grew up on the Ms Gulf Coast and still go back often to visit my parents. Often we just stay at their house, but since we have the PUP now we use trips home as an excuse to get a little camping in. This past weekend we took such a trip and ended up at Shepherd State Park in Gautier. Though I grew up less than 10 miles from this park I have to admit that I had never heard of it until my wife found it in "Trailer Life", I had my doubts but it was cheap (as state parks usually are) and its not far from my parents house so we tried it out. I was very pleasantly suprised. The park has only 28 RV sights but they could probably put twice that number of sights in the same area. Each site is surrounded by trees making it seem like you are all alone in the park. We were right next to the comfort station but couldn't see it at all.

I spoke with the ranger who said that the entire workforce of the park consisted of himself and a clerk yet the park is very well maintained. There are not a lot of amenities as you might imagine with a staff of two, but there are some very nice nature trails and a Disk Golf course as well as a boat launch.

We will definitely go back.
