cyclone

 KellyOk....this IS getting a little weird. [;)] I m planning a trip there, too!

Garrett

KellyBoy this is wierd, I have been there!  Just this past fall.  We were there during the week right after Labor Day.  It is a large campground.  you need to be careful where you camp or you can be a LONG way from a bath house.  The sites were large, level and some were shaded and some were total sun.  They have a very nice beach and great hiking trails.  I am sure you will like this park.

BTW the Indiana chapter of the GLPUC is looking for a spot down that way for a group campout.  If this many folks are looking at Whitewater Memorial  maybe we should plan on there.

 GarrettGarret,
Do you have any particular section to reccomend?
 Thanks!

KellyI don t know anything about the campground, but if you guys are all going to go there to camp, maybe.......just maybe I could join you!!!

I m not going to get a lot of camping in this year, so the few trips I make...I want them to be good ones.

If you all plan to go, let me know when you are going[:)][:D]

I keep thinking that one of these summers I am going to take a camping trip thats longer than just one weekend....maybe this would be the time to do it..

Garrett

KellyWe actually arrive here on Labor Day last year.  the campground had been absolutely full, it is a very popular park, but we pretty much so had it to ourselves.  We were in site 2, which was realativly close to the bath house and mostly shaded.  If you look at the campground map at

 http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/maps/whitewater_camp.pdf

you will see there are three areas and only two bath houses to the main campground.  We we in what I consider the front most area.  In that area anything closer to the front (camp store) will have very little shade.  Most of the other areas have at least some shade.  The middle area (close to the playground) my have the nicest sites but no bath house.  All of the sites are pretty much out in the open.  If you like secluded sites this is not the place for you.  If you like neighbors it has a lot to offer.

I never checked out the horseman s camp, so I cannot offer any help with that.

KellyThanks for the info.  I would really love to join you all but I think Memorial day is just a little to early for me.  April and May are busy months with horse activites for me (although I have to cut back on those too[>:]).  Unfortunately, I can t commit to that weekend.

If it was later in the summer, I would be able to do it.  I hope all of you have a great time and hopefully we can meet at a future campout.  That does sound like a nice place to camp.

Garrett

KellyMemorial Day we will be at Cliffty Falls SP down on the Ohio  river if anyone wants to join us.  Later in the season we may try to arrange a group of GLPUC-Indiana at Whitewater.  I will be sure and let you know.

Camper Dan

 KellyHi everybody[:D],

Been there...camped there...bought a T-shirt![:D]  Part of our Maiden Voyage trip was spent there (nights 2,3 & 4) last June.  It s a real nice park.  I have been camping there since about  1990.  Friendly staff, clean rest rooms/park, they now take online reservations, allow pets, have  great playground...!  They have a 200 acre lake w/beach, a marina with paddle boat, canoe and rowboat rentals (electric motors only, lake).  Lake was drained for spillway repair in 2001...so fishing is not yet quite as good as it was...but Brookville Lake (nearby and 10 miles long) has some good fishing (you probably have to rent a boat there, though).  There is horseback riding and hiking...a little camp store with a great sellection of ice cream.

The small (tiny?)country town of Liberty is about 3 miles north of the park and has gas stations, a Subway Shop, pizza shop, a grocery store(adequate selection), etc.  There is a little amusement center/park driving range, go-carts?, arcade games, is just outside the park entrance called " Wally World"  (it s fun)[;)].  There is a bait shop that sells fishing licenses, etc. just a 1/2 mile north outside the park.

Nearby is Oxford, Ohio...it s about 12 miles southeast of Liberty and has a large supermarket (Krogers-major regional chain-great selection, has it all) and a Wal-Mart[;)].  It is a little larger country college town (than Liberty) and has lots of neat little restaurants (not including the typical national fast food chains) and nearby is another state park...Hueston Woods Resort SP (Ohio) with a 625 acre lake, marina, beach, golf course, fishing, horseback riding, and a camp store with a good selection of ice cream, etc.  However, we prefer Whitewater SP for camping and ice cream over Hueston Woods.  [:D]

The next closest (country) town is Brookville, Indiana, which is about 16 miles south of the park.  The grocery there is about 18-20 miles from the campground (south end of Brookville).  There are several canoe rentals in the Brookville area for some class 1 & maybe 2 canoeing/kayaking/float trips.

BTW...I ve tent camped in your state: on Thunder Lake, Minn. (between Remer and Longville), Leech Lake (on Bear Island), somewhere near Ely, and canoed(about 100 miles round trip)/camped the Boundary Waters area from Moose Lake, Minn. to Agnes Lake in Quetico(sp)PP and back.  I hate your mosquitoes...they took at least a gallon of my blood[;)]...but loved your walleye fishing!

Hope this helps!  WWMSP is 37 miles from us and we had camped there 2x s last year & look forward to returning this year.  It s our favorite near home CG.

 Got questions, just ask![:D]

Camper Dan

 KellyFor the horse people:[:D]

The horseman s camp loop is primitive, so when you want to use the class A restrooms, you ll have to drive your pickup to get there... there is parking by the restrooms, but no hitching rail.[:D]

Actually I believe that riding is restricted to the bridal paths...which pass through the horsemen s camp loop![;)]  You might also opt for boarding your horse at their stable and camp in the Class A campground.  I am not real sure if WWMSP offers this or if it was another CG we were at that did.[:)]

 Hope this helps!

 Garrett,[:D]

We haven t camped at Clifty Falls SP in awhile...it s on our list for this year.  We camped at Spring Mill SP, Mitchell, Ind. last October for 5 nights.[:D]

 Thanks, Camper Dan ~

That helps immensely.  Have our reservations made and are now counting down!!  Next step is to find more to do than just sit around the campfire chatting ~ Wait....that sounds fun!  Maybe I won t leave my camp chair! [;)]

You ve camped more in my state than I have!  Fishing is always good!  Mosquitos ~ well you get used to them....[:D]

 Thanks again ~
