Does anybody know:

  • how to find a designated shop to do state inspection
  • how much does it usually cost?
  • how long does it usually take for brand new popup to pass?
  • what are other related issues & things to consider?

Thank you.

Any shop that does auto inspections will do trailer inspections also.  I don't remember what the fee is, $6 to $10 seems to stick in my mind.  It's not a large amount.  A brand new popup should only take minutes for an inspection.  Biggest items for them to check would be brakes and lights.

It's $6.

All they check is the lights.

It's a total joke.

To be completely legal, you have to have this done every year.

Anyone who doesn't check his own lights before leaving the driveway needs a nanny state like this.

Thanks for your reply.
The mechanic who usually does the NYS inspection for my cars told me it has to be a "special" place for trailer's inspection. According to him, there's only one such a place in Staten Island NY. Does it sound like baloney?
Thanks again.

We don't have trailer inspections here in Oklahoma and as silly as your state inspections sound we have something even sillier.  I bought a new LPG tank at Lowes, so I could mount duel tanks on my new pop up.  I had to pay $3.00 to have an Oklahoma State Permit/Sticker placed on the tank.  It is illegal to fill a new tank without this sticker.

I think I got y'all beat.

It does sound like baloney. I have taken our 2000 Mesa to midas for the last 10 years with no problem. I know they are supposed to check the brakes but last year was the first time they pulled a wheel. This year only checked the lights.

Yep. I passed it (duh!) Cost 6 bucks and took 10 sec. Actually, for some reason, it took a mechanic longer to scan the VIN# into computer and figure out how to fill out the form.
Thanks to all for your input.
Cheers.
