I purchase my 2006 Niagara used. The person I bought it from told me that I need to put the two bunk ends in first then the push in the third slide out. I have read about differning opinions.

Can anyone shed some light as to the correct way to close up the trailer?
Bunk ends first then slide out?
Slide out first then bunk ends?

Thank you,

I have a coleman bayside with the dinette slideout (3rd slide).  The dinette slide goes in first as the beds (end slides) will slide in a rail on the outside of dinette.  When you are opening the camper, the bed ends come out first and then the 3rd slide.

If you tried to pull the 3rd slide out before pulling out the 2 ends, you could damage the rails.

My E3 is the same way. The rail is on the outside edge of the slideout so the slidout has to be in so the beds have a rail to slide into.

Push in the slideout, start sliding in one of the beds and watch the bed rails on that side. You should know how it works after that.

The other two posters are correct!  I too have an 06 Niagara.  When closing the camper, put the glide in - in first BUT LEAVE THE CANVAS POOFED OUT until you've got your bunk ends in - other wise you might catch the canvas in the slides, crimping, tearing and black marking it and the plastic.

I've found the use of a sponge mop (dry) to be beneficial when putting the canvas in.  Sometimes when you lower the roof, you will need to allow some settlement time before you can latch your roof.

As others have said, the trick is to keep the tenting clear of the slide rails.

We slide the dinette in, tenting out, slide the bunks in.
Lower the roof half way and push the tenting in.
Tuck the tenting one more time at 2 inches from closing.
Then down the rest of the way and let settle for a while before clamping.

Then finish loading the TV, clean the campsite, and make potty runs.
Then, latch the roof down.
Then pull forward for the last check of the trailer and campsite.

Happy camping!

I have a Starcraft, but I suspect your works similarly.  I have to push in my dinette slide-out first, and then I push in both bed-ends because they use a track that is attached to the dinette slide-out.  The bed-ends serve the purpose of keeping the dinette slide-out in place when the trailer is being towed.
