I just got home from our first camping trip in our 2007 rockwood pop up. it is a Freedom 2318G which has a slide out dinette. The camper was a leftover 2007 which we purchased in March of 2009. I set up the pop up without any issues.... but at approximately 0730 hrs the following morning I lost all power... I am familiar with electrical circuits and reset the breakers. No power restored. I checked the 12volt fuses... all were good.

I spoke with the campground office and they went so far as to replace all of their plugs/circuit breakers in the shore power box. Still no power to the camper.

I ended up removing the breakers inside the camper and found the main lug to the shore power had overheated and melted away from the feed bar. Why would this happen when the only things running were the a/c and fridge? shouldnt the breaker have tripped at the shore power site?

Im now having to take the pop up back and have the converter replaced....

any help would be appreciated. we are new to camping and are looking for knowledgable help....

If the load from the AC were too high, it should have tripped the 20A breaker in the converter. If the combined load from the trailer were too high, it should have tripped the CG 30A breaker.

It may be that the connection in the converter was not tight. That would cause heat to build up at the connection, even if it were less than the 20A breaker in the camper.

Have the dealer check out the entire electrical system at the same time he is repairing your door issue.
It could be that the leads were not tightened properly to the feed bar, creating resistance a lot of heat. This may not trip a breaker, since it really is not a short circuit. But all in all the dealer needs to measure the draw on your PU, since you purchased it new. Bring a list of the problems that you had, and have them repair everything at one time.

 Good luck.

Thanks for the advice....... I have quite a list for the dealer to correct. Most of the stuff is small knit-picky things but i figured while the warranty is in effect the items need to be corrected. I'll have them inspect the whole electrical system as you suggested......
