Why would the door to my pop up camper keep coming loose even though I made sure the camper is level and solid when I set it up? would the awning cause the roof to shift so far out of sqyare that the door would pop off at the top?

I just had the same problem and my front corner had rotted out.  I had to take out all the old wooden corner supports and replace with new.  check your corners by lifting up and see if the side and front are loose.  everything was loose on mine and allowed the front panel that the door was hinged on to fall forward and not alow it to latch.  You can also look at the door and see if the latch side is open more at the top than at the bottom.  Good luck!

The camper is a 2007 Rockwood Freedom series, model 2318G. The door frame is all aluminum and the "wingnut" type twist lock thingy's are nylon. Any suggestions.

Not familiar with your model PU.
Does it have a split door system?

steelmeal

not a split door system.... its a one piece door...

My Fleetwood door is a one piece door, and where you attach the top to the roof with the wingnut style locks, I generally have to fiddle with the AC cord (that is running along that area) and get it out of the way before I can lock the door in place.  My PUP has velcro along the sides of the entry to help seal the door once in place.  Thus far, my door frame has been very stable.

However, I am weak wristed, and last trip out, I lowered my door, and it slipped, hitting the fire extinguisher, and the bottom slid right down into the slot and further - had to get help (one to pull, while the other pried the PUP door frame away from the door) to get it back out of the slot and positioned properly.

I'm having a hard time picturing your issue. If you have the "Wingnuts" secured, I don't see how the door could come loose at the top. Maybe I'm just not understanding.

I've never heard of the awning causing the door to pop out.

I wish I could see a pic of what you're talking about.
