Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 Jayco 10UD and had some dryrot on one of the original Duro tires.  I replaced them with Loadstar 5.30x12 LRC tires (same size as Duro's).  My only question is that the Loadstar seem just a little bit larger - there is not much clearance in the wheel well with either the Duro or Loadstar, but just made me a little concerned.  The tires went on ok - have not yet towed it but will this weekend to get the bearings repacked.  Just wondered, has anyone had any experience with Loadstar tires on Jayco pop-ups?  Thanks.

I put LoadStar 5.3x12's on our pup about 2 years ago. We've been on several trips and haven't had one problem. After I got them, I had a local tire shop install high-pressure valve stems and balance them. I don't know how much that may have helped.

We have a '98 10 UD.

Thanks for the note.  I towed the trailer about 40-50 miles with no signs of rubbing.  Also, when I had the bearings repacked at the trailer service shop I mentioned it to them - they said no problem.  I'm sure it will be fine - just really not much clearance.

I don't think there would be that much of a difference. Certainly tire and camper manufacturer's would take the into consideration the required specifications and tolerances.

My pup uses the 5.30 X 12", too, and although I have Carlisle tires, here they have their regular and premium line of bias belted tires. I run the premium line (USA Trail) and it has a little more tire tread and so it's a little more in dia. and weight. But it still fits like a hand in a glove.

I'm thinking that's the least of your concerns ... priority number one is making sure the tire pressure is at 80psi cold.

I noticed the super tight wheel well on my 2003 Jayco 10UD too.  The DUROs that came with it left a bit more room, but every other brand seems a little bigger.

We had a blowout the second summer, probably because I was running the tires only at 35psi like a car (stupid me, but the dealer delivered it like that so I thought it was correct).

The problem is with so little clearance in the wheel well one blowout damages the plastic moulding at that section of the wheel well that is so close.

We then had another blowout with the new tire after a couple of trips, (at 80psi), I guess because of the damaged wheel well.

Now I'm going to have that plastic moulding in the wheel well replaced, unless it costs more than just trading up to a new model would.

Anyways, I still can't figure out why they'd make a wheel well with less than an inch of clearance in one spot .  I've never seen any other popups with so little room there.
