Finally I can open the pup and let her air out

We've had several weeks of hot muggy days and nights with scattered thunderstorms almost everyday. Finally the cooler temps and lower humidity is making it's way to the deep south. I am going to take this opportunity to open up the pup and let her air out while I give her a good cleaning, perform a little maintenance and get her stocked and ready for what many of us in the south consider to be the start of our camping season.

I can't wait.

I'm also waiting for the wet weather to subside, just my reason is different. I need to clean, prep and dry my trailer out for the long winter season that's about to come our way. My camping season is pretty well over.:(

Same for over this way ... the spring (before about may 15th) and again in late September, the hot, humid days are not the norm and we do the "low country" camping/fishing trips. I really enjoy the seashore in October.

For those hot, muggy days of summer, I skedaddle up to the mountains where they have warm days and cool nights and do the trout fishing thing. I forget how that elevation equation thing goes ... every 1,000 feet high equals so many miles north. Anyway, I'm a frequent visitor of the Standing Indian NFS C/G in western N.C. during the summer (and a couple other places, too).

A few years back we were making regular trips to northern Michigan for fishing the steel head run out of the Great Lakes up into the rivers and streams (both spring and late fall) and one particular fall got caught up in one of their famous "Canadian fronts". I mean the temp dropped 40 degrees and what started out as a heavy rain turned into sleet and snow! There are a few lakes in western North Carolina where the rainbow trout choose to live in the lake and then make their fall run up into the river. They are called steelheads, too, but nothing like those Great Lake fish! (but they do eat real good!) - Anyway, was fishing one of my old favorite holes in N.C. in late October awhile back for those illusive steelhead when a cold front came through simular to that Michigan Canadian front, started out with a hard rain and dropping temps but ended with more of an ice storm with some snow. Now getting out of there a couple days later with some still slick spots on the secondary roads and towing the little camper was kinda a challenge!

Fly,

My wife and I were hiking in Grand Tetons National Park about three years ago when the weather turned on a dime. For the first couple of hours of our hike the skies were partly cloudy and the temps were in the lower 60's. All of a sudden this storm started howling through those mountain peaks and the temps began to drop as fast as I have ever seen in my life. We held up for a bit to observe the weather but after about 10 minutes it started to rain, then sleet and then snow and the temps continued to drop. Well we decided that it would be best for us to head back to the trail head where our Jeep was waiting. From there it was back to our lodge to sit in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate to watch it snow.

Yeah I was in Salt Lake for two days of meetings so my wife and I turned it into a vacation by going to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. Time didn't allow for us to pull our pup from Louisiana to Utah then to Wyoming so we flew to Salt Lake and then drive to Jackson Hole where we spent the next 5 days exploring Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. One day I'm gonna have the time to pull the pup there and I can't wait.

Having seen Yellowstone and GrandTeton, I know they are worth the return visit.  But in that area, there are so many great sites, it can be hard to choose.  At the very least, I'd want to see Arches and Capitol Reef before going back to Yellowstone or Grand Teton.  But for first time visitors, do not miss Yellowstone.  Do not miss Yellowstone.
