Best of both worlds.

One of my favorite campgrounds near my home has the best of both worlds. Not only is there a 2100 acre lake there with awesome fishing and kayaking opportunities but they have two seperate campgrounds. One is a developed campground area with both back in and pull thru sights with water, electricity and sewage hookups, sitting on 100 acres with 109 sites. That campground has two fully remodeled bath houses, a boat launch and picnic area with pavillions for day use and a nice sandy beach for swimming.

The other campground sits on approximately 300 acres with 75 campsites. There are no hookups, no bath houses, (you can walk or drive to the other campground to use the bath houses there) and they have pit toilets. This is our preferred camping area there.

The developed campground almost always requires a reservation and is always packed while the primitive campground never requires a reservation and is to my surprise never even close to being full. The largest number of campsites I've ever seen occupied in the primitive area at one time was maybe 25 sites. While the developed campground cost $18.00 per night you have neighbors within 30 feet of you on either side. The primitive area cost $8.00 per night and the closest neighbor I have ever had was maybe 200 yards away.

I will add that it would be very difficult to get a TT or 5er into the primitive area due to the width of the roads and the sharp turns as well as the terrain. The primitive area was really designed for tent camping. Although I bring my pop up into the primitive area, I can not recall ever seeing another pop up in the primitive campground.

I hope it always remains the way it is.

Indian Creek Campground? I guess so, since that's the only album in your profile.

Looks like a neat place. I can't get the DW to do any dry camping. If it's warm, she (and I for that matter) don't wanna go without air conditioning, and if it's too cold, she's afraid the furnace won't do its job. She also likes her electric blanket.

I have a couple of places I'd love to do some dry camping, but can't get a willing partner!

Enjoy those beautiful places!

I'll bet it's a lot quieter, too.  No televisions, boom boxes, generators, idling diesels, etc.

We are not avid dry campers, but will do it for a long weekend now and then when powered sites are not available.

Looks like a beautiful place where I would love to camp; unfortunately it's a long way from Toronto.
