For those of you who give out candy on Halloween -

What kind of candy do you usually give out and how many pieces to each trick or treater?

I got 145 kids last year and things are getting kinda expensive - this year, I was planning on giving out one piece of chocolate candy and one "non" (like a bite size twizzlers, starburst, etc.).  Am I being stingy?

I have to admit that I can't resist giving the really little ones (who are ALWAYS extra cute no matter what kind of costume they have) a whole bunch...

We gave up camping on Halloween because of the candy Issue and it's expense. The tricker-treating at our favorite campground has gotten out of hand with more and more kids every year. One of our friends spent $75.00 on candy last year and still ran out. Some kids complained that they were not given enough and he caught several making a second pass for goodies. Park attendants have caught kids trying to sneak into the campground from nearby homes. A lot of campers really go all out with decorating their sites for Halloween and  many kids are taking atvantage of all the fun by getting all they can..What a shame... Halloween, like Christmas has become very commercial....

This is easy to answer we do not get Trick or Treaters at all at our house except for our 4 grandkids.....One good thing about living out away from everything....We do however give out candy at our Halloween Rally( SCCampers) every year this year we had around 45 kids.  Not to bad at all....
We do not have to worry about other kids coming into the CG we have the whole section for just us.....Next year the CG will be changing owners so things might change we'll see what happens.  Our group puts up a neat Haunted House( 58 Air and helpers ) and the CG would like to have us share it with other campers which will be bringing in non "sccampers" so I think we'll have to see what happens.

We love trick of treating at the campground. Always a good time and lots of great spirit. One camper even setup a cotton candy machine and popcorn. All the kids waited patiently in line. $75 seems way out of touch, sorry about the kids sneaking in, that really stinks. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

Kids do it for the fun, sure chocolate is always welcome, but good kids are happy with lollipops and such too. Give what you can. As far as kids who complain, forget em! Remember the smiles on the rest and have fun.

I buy two big bags of mixed candy (this year it's mini Snickers, mini Milky Way, Reese's peanut butter cups, mini Kit Kats) and when I run out, that's it.  I let each kid take two pieces.

When my brother and I were little, my dad took us trick-or-treating, along with the other dads, while the moms stayed home to pass out candy.  My dad and two of the other dads did "trick or drinking"; they each had a beer stein that they would get refilled with "something to keep you warm" at the neighbors' houses.  Of course, this was back when everyone on the street knew each other and trick-or-treaters WALKED instead of being chauffeured from house to house...

I bought several boxes of the full size Hershey's bars/Skittles/Starburst/M&Ms at Costco. I had coupons for each box so I think they came to about $.30 a bar/bag. When I used to buy smaller stuff, I'd wind up giving 2 or 3 pieces to each kid so it really winds up about the same cost. We get about 80-100 kids, probably more this year as it's a weekend. If I run out, I'll resort to fruit rollups or something I have around for school lunches. One of our neighbors always gives out drinks (fruit juice, water) which the kids seem to appreciates....Unfortunately, in the last 10 years, we noticed that kids arrive in vans to walk our neighborhood (which has sidewalks and streetlights). I don't mind because I enjoy seeing the kids all dressed up, especially the kids I know. Boy do they grow up fast. For the most part, the kids are very polite ... When our kids were younger, I used to buy toys, too so I guess I'm getting off cheap these days. My kids still talk about the guy who gave out dollar bills every year... I LOVE the cotton candy idea.

Live in a rural area snakes generally keep the kids away. Had some javelina visit this evening, they pawed and ate my jack-o-lantern. In Camp Verde Arizona their is a pumpkin patch and the elk will raid the patch, hoof the pumkin and eat it.
