PopupGizmos has a question for Reflectix users

Hello All,

At the suggestion of one of our great customers, once again we are looking at the possibility of producing solar window inserts as a alternative to using Reflectix. Pros are: Same level of wind blockage, heat blockage and possibly the biggy: be able to leave the insert in the windows when you fold up (I believe most people have to pull the Reflectix out of the windows and store it when folding up).

Question is: How much did you pay for your Reflectix?

We can run price checks (and have) and we also have a wholesale source that is less costly (when significant quantity is purchased) so we've looked at cost that way also. Reason we're asking you is there are several ways Reflectix can be purchased regarding the size of the roles. And it appears that most users would have to purchase more Reflectix than they'll use for the windows due to available roll sizes.

Only issue we will need to finalize is an attachment method. Since Reflectix is rigid, it stands up on it's own in the window. But our material will not readily do that...though we have some solutions in mind.

And to make this a fair question on my part...ball park pricing for a two bunk window set (both bunks, all windows) would be in the $60.00 range. And to be totally fair, until we built up a data base of window sizes, most order would have to supply measurements. But the final product would be ready to use right out of the box...no cutting, no sewing or taping on your part.

So ok folks, let's hear from you...your thoughts are very much appreciated.

And BTW, for those that just might remember a similar post by me about 10 years ago...it was a simple question like this one that was the start of PopupGizmos...so many thanks for you input.

Best regards,

Bob Pitney

Yes I would be interested. It is a project that I have wanted to do, but have not found the time to complete. $60 is not a bad price I don't think.

I BELIEVE there is another supplier of a product similar to Reflextix that is cheaper? http://www.radiantbarrier.com/double-bubble-insulation.htm

THANKS!!

Bob I do remember the question 10 years ago (and I still need to call you, live has has been hectic).  I already have reflextic, but if I could leave it in the windows...  If I did not have it I would be a definite yes.  I am courius about the attachment process.  Also I don't use the reflextic just in the windows.  I use it to line all 3 sides of my bunkends.

I use reflectix inserts in the winter only. Windows only.
I don't know if your material has any R value like reflectix does. I think they report an R of 1, about the same a 1/2" of plywood or so
Wind blockage? I've never found a need for anything under the bunk but would use rigid insulation if needed.
I think a 4'x25' foll is about $40.

Bob something I have always wanted is to have see through vinyl windows in the bunkends of my old PU and now in my htt.  Some sort of insert that you could put in the bunkend windows when it is hot, cold, or raining, so you can see out, but keep the weather outside.:)

I use 2 rolls of reflextic 4ft. by 25ft. and the cost for both rolls was almost $90.00,   not cheap......

Love your idea.  But I don't see how you could make your Gizmo material replace my reflectix cover.  There's only two straight seams on all six covers.  The bottom of both bunkends.  I have the double reflectix material.  Two layers of bubble material with three layer's of aluminum, one down the center and a layer top and bottom.   If memory serves, my covers have an insulation factor of R-6.  I do hope you come up with something.  I love my Gizmo Covers and would love to own a set of your window inserts.

Note: I could mail you a set of paper patterns for a custom set of window inserts   If that would work.
